The Age-Defying Diet: Outsmart Your Metabolism to Lose Weight-Up to 20 Pounds in 21 Days!-And Turn Back the Clock [Apovian, Caroline] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Age-Defying Diet: Outsmart Your Metabolism to Lose Weight-Up to 20 Pounds in 21 Days!-And Turn Back the Clock Review: Dr Apovian's plan worked for my friend and she had tried more diets then anyone I know. - My good friend in Boston was a patient of Dr. Apovianโs, she lost 58 pounds and now has the energy of a 25 year old --she is 51! All I want to loss is half the weight she lost and if I felt like I did when I was 35 I would be very happy. I am starting out on the diet first thing tomorrow morning. I can assure you that if I donโt achieve my goals I will retract the five starts I am giving the book now. I am giving Dr Apovian the five starts now mostly because I saw what she did for my friend and also because my friend has, whenever I have visited her, served me one of Dr. Apovianโs SuperCharged smoothies. I never had one that didn't taste great, but more importantly I felt full with just one smoothie, all the way until my next meal. I have tried many diets before but never by a such a big shot medical doctor, and one that my friend says really understands and cares about helping you lose weight and look and feel younger. I will post again after my first week on the plan. Wish me luck. Sorry, it did take me more then a week to get back to posting here, but I was waiting to see if I had anything negative to say...and I don't. Well sure the first week was a little tough getting used to drinking so many smoothies and soups, but I felt great, never hungry, and I was losing weight, so I didn't mind. At first I thought that Dr. Apovian's SuperCharged Smoothies and soups were a bit expensive, but when I figured out what a good nutritious, protein packed meal costs me to prepare, her soups and smoothies were a downright bargain. Another feature of her SuperCharged Smoothies and Soups is that you can use her Base Mix to add to your favorite recipe and it won't change the taste (just be sure you use the smoothie Base mix for Smoothies and the Soup Base Mix for soups, I didn't once and the powder didn't dissolve properly) you can also add her flavors (the soups are heavenly, I use them now for company) Of course the most important part of any weight loss plan are the results, which I am proud to say was the loss of the 25 pounds of fat I set out to lose. I took me only 5 weeks and it definitely was 25 pounds of fat I lost, not muscle as you do on some other diets. Plus I have more energy and feel healthier, and weigh less then I did when I was in my 20s and now at 52. I highly recommend this book, it has changed my life. Dr Apovian's recipes are so delicious and filling on the maintenance end of the diet, I will stay on it forever (well with a days cheat now and then), and the doctor makes that easy, because when you buy the book she gives you a subscription to her Diet Coach app for free, so that you always have her around to keep you on track. Review: So far so good - Good, informative read. Diet is a little strict with all the smoothies. Still working on it.

So far so good
Good, informative read. Diet is a little strict with all the smoothies. Still working on it.

Not difficult
Itโs a basic 2 smoothie a day and one meal diet in the beginning. Then itโs a smoothie a day and two meals. Common sense eating. Not very restrictive except for a lot of starches One glass of wine with a meal is acceptable. I already drink a smoothie for breakfast so if Iโm At home it is easy to Have another for lunch. If not home though it could get difficult to Adhere to. Itโs a matter of reducing total calories and keeping moving. Book has a lot of smoothie recipes which I really was not that interested in. I tend to stick with two basic ones. Keep it simple rather than keep 20 ingredients around. But I can appreciate there are people who want the variety.

Starting this diet TODAY
Apr 8 It's time. I've been trying to make a change in my health and weight for about ten years, no kidding, since my kids have been out of diapers, and I can't call it baby weight anymore. I saw this book on Dr Oz this week and I'm like halfway through the book already and can't put it down. I feel like she's talking to me. My metabolic age is wayyyy too high and I'm giving this a four-star rating because I'm revved up after reading the intro but I'm not sure if it's going to work yet. I'll change the rating up or down if it's working. Step one is cleaning out my kitchen hahahaha, my husband and kids are cookie addicts. So protein for lunch and dinner and then I'm going to hit the grocery store for all the smoothie and soup stuff. The author talks about the Science-smart brand for protein powder. Anyone tried it? April 10 Today was my forist official day on the diet. I was a little hungry in the afternoon, which is usually when I snack like crazy. I drank a lot of water and tea and got through it. I think I wasn't even hungry, because my stomach felt pretty full โ these shakes are HUGE, too much for me to drink at once, but just bored so I was trying to snack. April 11 Right, so... it worked at least for one day. 2lbs down on saturday morning. YEESSSSS! April 12 Down .4 lbs this morning, still down! Yesterday was a little harder because we had people over for dinner but I was able to serve one of the recipes in the book and it turned out really well. Plus wine, so yay. April 15 Forgot to log, but doing pretty good. Down another 2 and a half pounds for 5 pounds total in 5 days. Yeah, a pound a day, that works!! Also logged in to the authors site to the "Coach" which you get a code for in the book and found the recipes they have there, will make a few this week. And my order of the Sciencesmart protein they recommend is there, and it's been working. Love it. April 18 10 days, 8lbs down. Hubbie noticed. Pants looser. Feeling good! April 21 I'm officially addicted to smoothies. I am obsessed wit hthe fact that I can add fruit and an entire salad and protein powder and basically drink a milkshake for breakfast. I add spinach every morning, never taste it. I like spinach just fine for dinner, but these are making me feel like I've got a sneaky head start on everyone else in my office in the morning, especially when they bring in something from McDonalds or Hardees for breakfast. April 22 10lbs. Doing the I lost 10lbs dance. And, you better believe I'm having that glass of wine tonight (which the author allows each night, but sometimes I skip if I'm not in the mood) but tonight it will be champagne. April 24 OK, my Reboot phase ends today. Down 11lbs. Not the 21 it talks about on the cover, but still I am so much closer to my goal and honestly the best part is that my confidence is restored. Like I feel like I can do anything now that I did this, and I am thinking about doing another 2 weeks on the rebboot phase! So, overall, this is a 5 star review, but something that my husband said rings true. YOU have to follow the diet in the book and decide to change your life. Just the book isn't enough. But this diet totally worked for me and I'm sooooo happy, so yes to wine, smoothies, yummy recipes, and losing almost a pound a day!

Just So So
The information was good for the most part, but the author does not give enough good alternatives to use instead of buying her products which are expensive. (I found that unflavored Now Whey Protein Isolate is a good protein source because it has no taste and dissolves easily, but I had to try a few disgusting protein powders before I started using Now brand.) The recipes in the book are awful. Yuck! I lost a lot of weight fast at first (20 pounds). But I've had no more weight loss for weeks, and I miss breakfast and bread. I'm not sure how long a person can be happy on this diet.

Works more on smoothie diets rather than eating eggs and wheat products, allows one meal per day. Set plan meals for up to a month.Really fabulous. The author has saved my life!!

I've got a lot of diet books and in the main I turn straight to the diet and recipes rather than read all the pseudo medical justifications. Apovian does a good job however of describing how and why the diet works. A couple of irritations. Early on in the book it refers to grams, but then the recipes talk "cups" and ounces so I was constantly checking and converting. The chart for checking your BMI is in pounds. If publishers want to release a book in the UK, I wish they would make it a bit easier for us to understand. It was quite difficult to find the unflavoured whey powder / casein mixes she talks about in the UK. I purchased from Amazon, the product is German and seems to be excellent. Can't taste it in the smoothies and soups. I made the mistake of buying in Kindle format which is hopeless because you are constantly catapulted all over the place when you click on a recipe, only to find you can't go back to where you were. I then bought the paperback version which is easier to navigate.

Tried this for a week - couldn't take to the protein smoothes and powdery soups. However my husband is doing great on it. Different things work for different people. Generally the book was easy to follow. It's very old school in presentation. Could do with bringing it into the modern day in respect to quality photos, images of the receipes, and indexing in colour blocks. This book reminds me of reading books in the 60s when the pages were cream and text just black. The cover tends to make it look fresh but get past that and it's very Manila. However the content and story telling about successes keeps you turning the page. I can understand that the author is very knowledgeable, but seriously, making it so boring visually just makes it harder to find things when you're trying to make a recipe. I'm a bit disappointed if I'm honest!
