Very informative in training techniques. Easy to read. Tons of photos and illustrations throughout every chapter helping with the explanations, wonderful for the visual learner. Very detailed in helping an owner figure out if their dog would be a right fit in SAR and/or which area of SAR would be best. I purchased this book because a dog I recently adopted is showing true potential for SAR. I looked at many books and reviews and decided this book would be my starting point. I'm glad I did! I couldn't put the book down. Not only did I learn about the SAR dog, I also learned about being a handler as far as if I would be able to handle it physically, mentally and emotionally. Something that probably isn't considered at first by some people being so excited about getting their dog involved. Also explains very well the different jobs/leadership roles in a volunteer SAR unit. I've read a few other books since on other areas of dog and I'm actually going to read this book again! I have years of experience working with dogs but not in SAR and this book really helped me understand and helped me decide. Also, explains how to train extra commands, ones that I think you could use in your home or add to your training to have fun with your dog(s), if not going into SAR. Even if you just want to learn more about dogs in general to be more knowledgeable, this is the book! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars So good! *by C***Y on Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2019* I need to read other books specifically on training myself as a handler and SAR operator, but man was this a good book for dog training! It gives you an extensive overall look at things, with details and a section on actual training that was very easy to understand.
