KikkerlandBiodegradable Paper Straws, Bamboo, Box of 144

These straws hold up very well and are a lot more attractive than most plastic straws. I'm not overly attentive when it comes to hydration (I know, shame on me, but straws help!), so it's not unusual for one of these straws to sit in a large cup of liquid for HOURS. Here's a quick review of my personal experience with Kikkerland Biodegradable Party Stripes Paper Straws:- Yes, over time, they do lose some of their rigidity but they maintain their shape and usability; no pulpy goop or sagging. It's worth noting that the texture of the straw does soften a bit as the paper becomes saturated. Another review mentioned using these straws at a party and that guests were throwing them away after a few minutes. This is likely because the guests were unsure about the slight change in texture as the straws absorbed some of the drink, NOT because the straws were unusable. Obviously, chewing on a paper straw would severely impact the longevity and integrity of the straw.- Yes, they are biodegradable, compostable, and printed with food-safe ink.- No, the ink does not bleed or stain. I've used these in clear glasses, plastic cups, and white coffee mugs, for hot & cold drinks, without any issue. I've never had issues with stained lips, either!- No, they are not coated with any kind of wax or resin.- In my opinion there is no more of a paper taste than there is a plastic taste from conventional straws. And, for the record, I'm the kind of person who notices whether or not milk/juice was in a cardboard container.- Depending on what you're drinking it may be a good idea to change straws between drinks, i.e., orange juice to milk or rum & coke to a vodka-cran. You'd probably do this anyway, but a sip or two will NOT be enough to transition between drinks if you're down to your last straw. Learn from my mistakes, you've been warned. ;)If I had to complain about anything it would that these straws aren't 'air-tight'. It's not unusual for there to be small air bubbles while drinking. This happens less as the paper becomes saturated, but doesn't go away entirely. Even with this "flaw", they're still great alternatives to plastic straws!A few people have asked about packaging details and verbiage, so I've included some pictures. (Please note that the box and straws arrived perfectly intact. The smooshed'ness didn't happen until after I stuffed the box into the utensils drawer.)*This is a zero incentive review. I paid full price for these straws.

I bought these for my son's vintage circus themed birthday party. We placed them in empty glass milk bottles to complete an old school look to the refreshment table. We served lemonade and horchata so the look was still super cute as guests were sipping these at the party. The milk bottles were small so any beverage wasn't going to last in the bottles for longer than 20 minutes. As such, these held up well during that time. Some folks replaced their straws during refills, but by no means were the straws deteriorating beyond use. They are paper straws so some sogginess I suppose is to be expected is in liquid for any great length of time. I was pleased with the product, knowing full well what the product was, and that these are not the nicest ones on the market. After all where most paper straws on the market are sold in packs of 25 for a few dollars, these are coming with 144 in a package for the same few dollars. This is actually why I purchased them for our party. Disposable items tend to get tossed well before their full life expectancy at parties, so why spend more money for less items or for non-eco conscious options? I collected all of the milk bottles to wash after the party and for those straws that were still in the bottles, I tossed in the compost pile. If I were a straw fan in my every day life, I would totally buy these more often and put them back into the earth through my compost pile.

I purchased the birch pattern Kikkerland paper straws last May and am ordering another box in the bamboo pattern today. I really like this product, and it is good to know they are biodegradable and I am not sending plastic that will last forever out with my trash! Out of my last box of straws, I have had perhaps 5 of them get soggy at the bottom enough that I had to toss and replace it, and that was after at least 3 hours of use. I use these straws for iced tea and lemonade that I make with my Keurig coffeemaker, so they not only hold up to normal use, they hold up to HOT liquid being dispensed into my glass!!I bought some silicone and plastic reusable straws at the same time I purchased my first box of paper straws, and haven't liked using them. I really don't want to wash straws for reuse and hope that I have gotten them clean enough. I also looked at the metal and glass straws, and decided I'd probably chip a tooth or otherwise hurt myself with them! I prefer to use straws when drinking cold beverages to keep myself from my bad habit of chewing ice, so I'm sticking with paper straws.

Great looking straws, being paper they can’t sit in a drink too long, but as good as garnish.

Used the straws for drinks at an eco festival and they went down a storm they look amazing in a cocktail but they do turn into paper pulp quite quickly.
