This book provides a commentary on one of the principal source texts of Hatha yoga, I won't bother to explain the importance of this ancient text here, a quick Google search will make clear how important the Gheranda Samhita is. This commentary, by the well regarded Swami Niranjan, head of the famed Bihar School of Yoga (publisher of many other highly recommeded books on yoga), provides a verse-by-verse discussion, complete with the original Sanskrit, a transliteration, and an English translation. After each English translation is a DETAILED explanation of technique discussed in the text, including helpful background and yoga philosophy as appropriate. When I say detailed commentary, I mean literally step-by-step instructions with a list of the benefits and contraindications for each practice. Where modern versions of the ancient practice differ, he explains both the ancient way and modern way.
