Best upgrade
Best (and most affordable) upgrade I could have made to the Street & Steel scrambler jacket. Replaced that rigid, cardboard-like chunk of foam that made me feel like Frankenstein's monster with this, and suddenly the jacket fits close to form and feels so much more natural. Not to mention upgraded protection. I checked the product and unlike another reviewer, did get the Level 2 rated protector as expected so no issues there. Best upgrade for your jacket imo.

If you want to great back protection, get this.
Don't kid yourself, you cannot go cheap on your back and spine. If you want to great back protection, get this. It's CE Level 2 rated and is quite heavy and durable, yet pliable at the same time. It fits in my Joe Rocket jacket perfectly and is bright orange, which can actually be seen through my mesh jacket, so that's just an added bonus. It adds several pounds to my jacket, but again that's nothing compared to the safety benefit this product can provide.

Sturdy well made
Replaceable armor points (backpad, elbow pads) make the KLIM riding gear top grade. Easy to replace the old cracked brittle ones with the new replacements.

Great protector - Fits Scorpion Exo Jacket
Bought this protector to get Level 2 protection for my ScorpionExo Jacket. Like the shape and protection. Fits snugly in the protector pocket. Is very comfortable with a backpack.

Some modification required
This is not ready to go when you get it out of the box; Before fitting it to your jacket, you should plan to spend 20-30 minutes removing the molding flash from the vent holes with a sharp razor knife (see attached images), unless you want the protection to double as insulation. The quality is clearly superior to what came in your jacket, which is definitely not a Klim jacket because you're not the kind of person who spends 4 figures on a single outdoorsy garment. It fit great in my Scorpion Exo Optima jacket. It weighs just over 1 pound, which is more than 7 fold heavier than the stock scorpion foam (pictured), even though the dimensions, including thickness, are nearly identical. The jacket doesn't feel any heavier with the Viper 2 in place, but the weight does seem to shift the balance a bit. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to upgrade a mid-range jacket to level 2 protection.

D3O is as good as you can get
The D3O is worth the money, especially since a lot of the cheaper options on amazon are from no name companies that refuse to list what they're actually building their armor out of and its easy enough for them to stamp Level-1 on it with no actual testing done.Get the KLIM or the Icon back protector. KLIM also has a reputation of replacing their gear after you crash as long as you send the busted stuff in so they can see what worked and what didn't on it.

I can't praise this highly enough.
My Joe Rocket Velocity came with CE armor in it...but I wanted an upgrade. I can't tell you how HAPPY I am with this piece. It warms up and molds to every curve on my back and the jacket doesn't "bulge" out like with the foam type armor. I plan on getting the elbow and shoulder pieces in the future as well to match. It's heavier than the foam (of course, right?) but not so much that I notice it...and what I really notice is that it breathes really well too. I wore the jacket on/off the bike and walking around for over 10 hours Saturday (got it Friday night) and I tell you...it was MUCH more comfy than what I had...and...mentally...I was really at peace knowing it was there. I wear Bohn adventure pants under my jeans...my Scorpion gloves have Knox armor...and now I have the excellent D30 armor on my back.I've been riding on the streets since 10. (Moped to school at 10 due to family necessity) I've been down 2 times. Once in town, once at highway speeds on my Harley at 22. I've been stupid at times ever since...I have no idea why? But thankfully each time I went down...I had on full coverage (if not armor back then) and a full face helmet. Today...I try to be as smart as I can - and this new 'smart tech' is pretty awesome.

great back replacement compared to the factory back protectors
Havent been in an accident to fully review this product but based on the fact that it is CE2 and D30 armor. It beats better than the standard flimsy item that comes with most motorcycle jacket. Just like the song from Slim Shady"your spinal fluid is final and you wont get it back" should you get into a sever accident with your backOnly drawback is that this may be too big to fit into some back protector. I wear a size L motorcycle jacket and had small fitment issues
