Great Pole For The Money!
This is a very nice entry level surf casting pole. It's basic, but sturdy & well made. At 15 feet long, you'll get some amazing casts! The fold down first ring is a nice feature that helps prevent damage & makes the pole easier to store & transport. The grips are comfortable & well placed. The only downside of this rod is the base is just slightly larger than most rod holders. It does fit well in 2" pvc pipe, so you can either make your own rod holder, or strap a piece of pvc onto an existing rod holder. The three piece design makes it easy to store & transport. The joints fit snugly & lock together well. In the picture, the two poles I have are on the right, with 14000 spinning reels. The poles next to them are 8', 7'6", & 5', respectively.

Awesome Surf Rods
I purchased 2 of these 15 footers and was well impressed on how they were shipped. Each had a box and was packed tightly with air buble packaging and each had a plastic bag to protect them. I checked all the rod guides and they were mint as well as the rod and reel but sections. Amazon must have listened to other posters where they had broken guides and shipping was not packaged well. They certainly stepped it up with what I received. First thing I done was take the suggestions from other posters and sand each connection point down a bit. They are hard to seat if not done and the sanding helps get them apart. I assembled both rods and man are they long, you do not know really how long 15 feet is until it is all assembled. It is a heavy rod but that is ok for river fishing for big catfish. The cost is incredible and with free shipping you cannot beat it anywhere. I currently am looking for a good pair of large spinning reels and am leaning towards the Okuma baitfeeders series or the Daiwa Giant. I have on them some old large spinning reels that have 60 lb braid, and with a 6 oz weight I can cast so far it is rediculous. The trick to casting this beast is let out enough line so that it is 3/4 the length of the rod, lay it on the ground underneath the rod then begin to throw forward loading the rod and release at the 11 o'clock toward your target. The rod loads up well and casts forever. Great buy and will buy a few more as well.

15 Feet of amazing fish fighting power!!!
Sometimes you just find yourself needing more fishing gear.. Fishing is like model railroading or flying, or skydiving, your always finding something new and cool to have.. That said - I have two of these 15' beast.. I can fish salt water or fresh water with ease, and reel any whatever I am sure. My passion for fishing often finds me chasing large blue catfish and channel cats.. AND they work spot on! The tip as not a fast action but you can see bite when tight lining or even bumping or trolling; The sheer size draws everyone's eyes in most fresh water locals.. The artic white glows with a sliver of moon light, and takes nothing much in terms of a bank light to see rod tip movement.. You can really launch some impressive baits when you have a large rig setup, and big fish go for big baits.. But you can also toss line an hooks for snagging as well.. But what I also like, is being able to even cast lures too- sounds crazy but this company makes amazing stuff.. And I will be buying more even in smaller sizes for other fishing.. Fine craftsmanship, outstanding performance, and the 15' breaks down easy into 3 easy to store an go sections. So to close.. Would I tell a friend, I have.. would I gift one sure, I do plan to buy more! Is it worth it.. Buy it - try it - and fall in love with it!

Good for surfcasting in CA with moderate surf
Definitely a good, no frills value model that serves my purposes. The rod is 3 pieces, each about 4 feet, so easy to carry. It's rated at 6 ounces of combined bait and lead for casting. I'll be using it on the CA central coast for halibut and ling cod and smaller species. The taper is just right for throwing 2 or 3 ounces way out there beyond the breaking surf. I made a mistake with the reel, I got a Penn Wrath II 4000, which is very small for a rod this size. But it will work. Rarely do surf fish spool ya. The tip is soft enough to detect nibbles and the shaft is equal to fish up to 30 or 40 pounds. The guides are strong and well designed and spaced.

HORRIBLE PRODUCT & COMPANY - **MUST READ** - BEWARE
I don't often write reviews whether or positive or negative, but felt it important to write this one due to the awful customer service of the manufacturer. I bought the 12ft version of this pole less than 2 months ago. I have only used it 4 times. The largest eyelet (guide) closest to the reel completely broke apart into pieces, and there is rust on some of the others. It was kept safe and never dropped. It simply fell apart. Look, I understand that this is a cheaper rod. However, I expected Okuma to stand behind their product and make good on it. The only way they were going to replace my rod, was if I cut a section of the rod out, and sent it back to them, to Canada, at MY expense. Then they would mail me a new one. I said that was ridiculous for me to have to pay to mail a section internationally out of my pocket. I even offered to cut it up and take pics to email them to prove that I was not trying to keep 2 rods. They said no. I also felt that I shouldn't have to wait that long to get the replacement. I said to send me a new one with a return packing label and I would put the old one in the box and send it back. They said no. They tried to tell me that they were doing me a favor because normally it would be $15 for shipping! REALLY? FOR YOUR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT? Clearly this happens often if they will not stand behind their product and need to charge unfortunate customers who receive faulty equipment. Buyer Beware. No rod should rust and fall apart that quickly. I have Walmart poles for years that are still functioning. Just thought I would share and warn future purchasers.

Here on the Miramichi during early fall the stripers are moving back in to feed....some stay the winter under the ice. There are a higher percentage of large, mature fish in the system and they mostly take bait as opposed to lures. So chunking is the norm and long casts are an advantage. I looked for about two months for a good surf rod and decided on the Okuma Tundra and I haven't been disappointed. This rod will cast a mile with 3 and 4 ounce weights. It's light and has a sensitive tip. Anyone who thinks the butt is too long obviously doesn't know how to cast a surf rod. The length of the fighting butt is perfect for getting that pendulum action to gain momentum for that long cast. I've already landed several nice stripers just today. An amazing rod for an amazing price.
