desertcart.com : Romney's of Kendal - KENDAL MINT CAKE White bar (LARGE) 170g/5.98oz : Candy Mints : Grocery & Gourmet Food Review: Probably delicious and the wrapper is lovely - Bought it for my sister, who loves the old Angel Mints, if you remember those quick dissolving, highly minty wrapped cylinders of candy. This is more of a bar, which had sent to her, and as of right now she is so enamored of the wrapper that she isn't opening it to try the candy. Here is what I think could be true, though: Kendal Mint Cake is not a cake. It is a confectionary made in Kendal, Cumbria, in the U.K. and is just a couple of ingredients - and that's rare enough these days that something isn't stuffed with colors or preservatives. Anyway, it is basically sugars and peppermint oil and water boiled down, while continuously stirring, to make a sort of granular bar that hikers and tourists used to like in the Lake District. According to Delishably, "Mint cake was taken up Everest in 1953 when Edmund Hilary ascended it, as well as by Sir Ernest Shackleton on his Antarctic expedition of 1914-17." Check out the article there for more details and a video from a factory. I'd say I would update this when she finally eats the mint cake but that could be a long wait. Review: Omg, Awesome Product! - I rarely write reviews but this one is necessary. I was hesitant to purchase this item because I didn’t get a clear picture of exactly what I was buying. But I took the risk! And glad I did. So here it is, the mint cake is just like the center of a York peppermint patty. I have always liked York peppermint patty because the mint keeps my stomach calm when it gets queasy, but the chocolate covering could trigger my migraines. The Mint Cake is perfect because it’s just the mint patty with no chocolate covering and it tastes delicious. My second concern was getting this from overseas, would it take forever? NO, I got it within a week which was such a nice surprise. It was packaged up super secure and came via my local PO. Really happy with this product and with the sellers! I am now going to order a bunch of bars to keep in stock.

Yummy
These taste really great if you like peppermint patties. Basically the same but no chocolate. No melting issues. A littrgoes a long way.

Super for fast energy, especially if you like mint.
I'd heard about this and finally decided to take the plunge, buy one, and see what they were like. Well, it's certainly mint! The bar is kind of like the inside of a peppermint patty, only harder. The flavor is similar, but perhaps a little more "minty". The color is the same. The bar is almost completely sugar (Sugar and Glucose Syrup), so if you need quick energy, this will give it to you. We used this at a swim meet. My sons would eat a little right after a race, prior to warming-down, and also prior to warming-up before a race. I'll probably get some more to have on-hand for emergencies or to take with me when cycling or hiking. Overall we liked it. I gave some to a friend, and his kids liked it as well.

WOW That’s Sweet !!!
Purchased two bars after seeing this candy highlighted on a British cooking competition (not the baking show) because I love sugar and mint candy. Received quickly and in good condition. My reaction to eating this candy was something I’ve never before experienced. It literally made my teeth hurt. Regrettably, had to toss.

Delicious, silky texture, fast shipping
I loved the flavor of this bar. It was different from what I am used to in peppermints. Nice flavor, sort of a silky texture. Not grainy, but not creamy either. Just right. Now for the con. I did not like the way it was packaged for shipment. They put it in a shipping envelope and it arrived crushed and in pieces. My husband loves the Antique Road Trip show and they did a segment on the factory that makes the candy. We love peppermints, so I bought one as a surprise for him. Too bad they don’t have a little box for shipping. I’d still buy more of them because they really are delish!

DEE liscious!!!
Recently learned about this candy on an old episode of Escape to the Country, where the house-hunters visited the factory. Had to try it! I’m so glad it’s available via Amazon. It’s fantastic. Too bad I don’t do any endurance activity to justify the calories. It could be addicting, but not at the cost to import. I will treat myself again sometime.

Looking forward to getting reacquainted
I hate to admit this, but I used to carry these in my backpack 30 odd years ago as my emergency rations. I remember these as being twice as big back then, but what doesn't shrink with age I guess. A wonderful pick me up when things get rough. My only experience using these as an "emergency ration" came when I was in college when my dorm cafeteria card ran out a couple of days before my next paycheck. I lived on these for three days. Since it's just about one hundred percent glucose, I was a bit wired, but I made it through - LOL! Glad to see I can get them again. Highly recommended.
