Anecdotes are part and parcel...
"Anecdotes are part and parcel of this book" I love reading Culinary SOS columns. Writers requesting recipes give the most marvelous descriptions of their desired dishes and often have enchanting anecdotes to share. This book offers lip service to these requests and then largely leaves them out! A very nice collection of recipes - from old classics to new (circa 1996 new) contenders but sadly without the enchante of the readers' requests, the heart of Culinary SOS. It made me sad enough to salve my woe with Espresso Coffee Jelly - restaurant source and reader request sadly omitted.

The best California Restaurant Dessert Recipes!
For years I followed Rose Dosti's Culinary SOS article in the LA Times. I however, lived in Tacoma. We moved to southern California four years ago and I internet searched all her archived articles available from the LA Times. I found all her books on Amazon and just had to have them. If I had a way to meet this woman I would have, but as I understand, she sadly passed away. This is only one of her Culinary SOS books and I'm so glad I bought it. Some of the best desserts I've ever made!

Awesome Book!!!!
I love this book! So many great recipes from restaurants that I used to go to, many of which are no longer around, but at least we now have their recipes in this book. I want to try all of them. The recipes are not at all complicated, but they sure taste great. I already made five of them right after I got the book, and everything turned out great!!!!

Pound per Pound, A Damn Good Cookbook
I'm a baker at heart and there is no other cookbook that I own where every single recipe I've tried is as good and as memorable as a nice and very expensive glass of champagne. I've got books where I can make good food, no doubt there. But recipes as superbly finger-licking good and that has anyone that has ever tried any of these desserts asking for more is a mark of an excellent and most necessary dessert book for any kitchen. And every single one I've tried was just that good. Kathy's Broadway Carrot Cake, Virginia Depew's Buttermilk Pie and the Loma Linda Chocolate Prune Cake are sinful favorites of mine. What more can I say? If you need a tried and true dessert book, this one won't let you down.
