is jack easy to crank up and down

Yes, I have the jack on my utility trailer. It is easy to crank. It cranks up and down slowly but surely.

I don't know. Their website is a bit vague on where they are located, but it appears to be in the US.I can tell you the jack is incredibly well made. I bought mine last August and have enjoyed it tremendously. I used to use a trailer dolly to move my 4 x 8 open trailer around until I got the Fulton jack. Now I just easily roll it around with the attached jack.I had installed the jack too close to my bumper and it contacted it during a turn, knocking off the black plastic cap on the top of the tube. Without it, rainwater would get into the gear area. So I called Fulton and told them what I had done (making sure they knew it was my fault) and they apologized for the problem and sent me 2 replacement caps for FREE. Talk about great customer support!So, where is it made? Don't really know. Is it WELL made? Absolutely! After of almost a year of use it still works flawlessly.

when turning the trailer, does the wheel and yoke pivot independently of the shaft or does it and the shaft pivot as a unit?

This is the same as any swivel caster that you would find on a piece of furniture. Only the wheel and its housing turns. The only movement that the shaft does is up and down.
