Great idea, but poor quality, rod split at connector
Well used to using rods, to clear a drain, that blocks once a year or so.Seen these and though they were a great idea. You line up the ends and screw it in untill it goes no further, the block is locked in and allows you to rotate the rods clockwise or anti clockwise.Unfortunately on my first go using these, one of the rods failed at the connector, not sure if its a one off or what but im sending mine back and looking for a heavier duty set. I dont want it to come apart in the drain, and have to get a jcb in to dig it up

Locking drain rods...
As someone who has never had to rod a drain before, I found these rods excellent. I used the worm screw and once the manhole was up, it went a few yards before meeting resistance. I couldn't turn the rods but I could twist them back and forth. This is one of the advantages of buying a set that can't come undone underground. A bit of pushing and twisting and through it went. Thank you, World, for introducing me to a new pleasure - that feeling you get when all the muck comes flowing out, it's a weight off your mind. In the end the worm screw was enough, I simply pushed it to the end, moved it, wiggled it, still couldn't turn it like I had expected to be able to do, but no matter it worked easily. To finish off I used one rod and the plunger at the trap end to push the water through taking any remaining muck with it.These rods were only £8 more than rods from the same manufacturer without the locking mechanism. If you're a bumbling drain amateur like me it is well worth that little extra for the peace of mind of knowing they're not going to come apart in the drain.Only thing that would improve these would be the inclusion of a drop scraper, which is less than £3 extra and also locks on, something worth considering that you may need in preference to the plunger.

These are not money down the drain
If you need these, you are never really in for a good time - however they made a rather unpleasant job much much easier!Having tried a flowerpot tied to a long piece of bamboo (and subsequently lost the flowerpot halfway down a blocked drain), when these arrived I was very happy. They are a little fiddly to link together but do connect solidly once you get it right, they are suitably flexible and get the job done, I also thought the price was very reasonable - so if you need drain rods, get these and you'll soon feel flushed with success (sorry)

Simple idea for locking rods but very effective once you get the knack of it.
Very good rods, nice and flexible. I struggled to join the rods initially, but found the quickest and easiest way is to lay the rods, to be joined, flat on the floor. Then, holding the female end of a rod, insert the male part and using the knurled section turn clockwise to just start the joint. Then hold further back on the male ended rod and if you can turn the rod you know you are not yet screwed in far enough and the ends are not aligned. Keep screwing in the knurled section, a bit at a time, whilst holding the female ended rod, and checking if you can rotate the male rod. Once you have screwed in far enough and you are properly aligned you wil not be able to turn the male rod. Then screw the knurled section right up and the joint is complete. A little WD40 or equivalent, sprayed on the threads helps too. I found this method quicker and far easier than trying to hold the rods in the air at different angles. Of course it won't always be possible to lay the rods flat, but if you can't, try to keep both rods to be joined as parallel as possible and you should be ok. Hope this helps.

Job's a goodun!
Arrived today and already used. I had a blocked drain and managed to clear it in short order. The locking sections give peace of mind and confidence, no worries about lost sections remaining in the drain. Assembled a length of 5 sections to do the job and then ran this down the drain. The angle between the section in my hands and those in the drain was about 100-110 degrees, allowed a decent radius curve in the rods for the change of direction so as not to kink. Good tool, saved me a call out fee and then some.
