If is even available in toothpase and mints to help stop cavities. Another plus: Xylitol is shown to NOT increase your glycemic index, which means it should be prescribed (oops, no, Dr's won't prescribe because it is not patentable, but look up the research.) Doctors and dentists should be routinely recommending this to replace sugar in your diet. But alas, no $ no recommendation to do so. Sad state of medical affairs (mostly with Big Pharma).
