Review: Great Camera! - I have had this camera for several months now and had a chance to use it in a lot of different situations. It is excellent! When I first received it there were a number of features I wasn't too sure about but as I use it more the features in question are great. On several occasions I discovered something that I didn't like but when I actually took the time to read the instructions whatever I didn't like was easily changed. It also took a little adjustment for me to use the view finder as it folds out to the side but that feature makes it easy to take photo's in awkward positions and now I wouldn't trade it. I have used the camera to take some spectacular time-lapse photo's of sunsets and night skies. When using it for night photo's of city lights it is possible to take the pictures without a tripod and yet the pictures are sharp. I have no idea how that works, but it does. It also does an excellent job on video. For a camera of this size to have a 30x zoom capability is amazing. One of the features that really appealed to me when purchasing was it's small size as we travel overseas a lot and getting everything in the allotted space is often a problem. The camera does everything that I want plus some. We are very happy with it.
Review: Great Camera!! - Absolutely love this camera. It came in pretty good condition for a refurbished digital camera. Only has minor scratches on the body but other than that it operates great. Which is expected for this camera being years old. The picture quality is really good, and I’ve had no problems with charging/ the battery it came with a cord, and SD card would definitely recommend! My new favorite camera, and was a perfect upgrade from the last cam I had.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone have this model for quite sometime? I'd like to get some feedback on picture quality and reliability. Is this model preferred over S9700**
A: I own both the sS9700 and the S9900.Because both models use the same lens and BSI CMOS image sensor, so you can pretty much expect to see zero differences between identical pictures taken by both cameras at the same time. The big differences between the S9700 and the newer S9900 is the manual flash release and articulated viewing screen on the S9900. The manual flash release was hated by people used to the automatic pop up flash like the S9700 has, but I found the automatic flash very annoying on the S9700 since it was always activating because the lens is not very forgiving in low light situations or if even a small amount of zoom magnification is used.I take a lot of pictures using existing light such as indoors where a flash would disturb others and leaving the flash retracted on the S9900 lets the camera know it must adjust the exposure to take a picture using just the available light. Using the s9700 under the same condition meant overriding the flash every time it popped up in order to take an existing light picture and that really got old fast. The articulated screen is nice to have but of limited use for me. It is nice to be able to turn the screen inward to use the camera body for protection, but if you do that you will need to flip the screen back outwards before you can use the camera which detracts from keeping it handy for that quick and impulsive picture. I normally carry the S9900 in a pocket case with the screen already facing out. The best carry case for the camera only is the padded case for the WD portable 2.5" hard drives. These can be easily found on Amazon or eBay for under $5.00One very useful addition on the S9900 that is also found on newer Nikon cameras is an additional control dial on the top of the camera nearthe shutter release. This control wheel normally has the same function as the scrolling wheel around the control button group on the camera back. This allows for quick dedicated control of the same functions as the scroll wheel on the camera back except that it is easier to access and rapid movement of it only affects the scrolling function without the chance of accidentally pushing in on the edge of the scrolling wheel on the camera back which would be treated as a button push by the other functions attached to the control on the camera back. Once you get used to using this feature properly it will be hard to go back to using the older controls. The S9900 can also be ordered in silver and black. The design of this case in the two colors makes it look like a classic camera from the past and it appears to be a bit more sturdy as well. These are all reasons why I am happy with the S9900 however I still use my S9700 because the cheaper looking and feeling case of the S9700 really doesn't look like anything and therefore it is easier to use for "street photography" where you might not want to advertise very strongly you are taking pictures in public. If you set the S9700 for the non automatic scene selection mode, you can over ride the automatic flash and not worry about it popping up until you change exposure modes. The flash override setting will stay set until you change exposure modes and stay set even if you power down and restart the camera. This means I still find my S9700 useful and it was not replaced by the S9900 when I started using it.

**Q: Can you wear it around your neck**
A: I carry it in my pocket. Yes, you could buy a larger strap for it but personally I have my DSLR around my neck. Why both? Not really necessary but sometimes it has the better distance shot than my Nikon 28- 200 lens.

**Q: Is "auto flash" feature unavailable in this model? some of the reviews state that the flash needs to be popped out manually even in the auto mode**
A: Unfortunately yes, you must raise the flash before it will work even in auto-mode.

**Q: does this camera shoot good in auto focus**
A: The Nikon S9900 iteration in my opinion is the best in the series. I've used the S8000 above and below. It is heavier that the previous models, but it feels so much more sturdy. On MACRO, with enough light, you can focus down to less that 1/2." You are almost putting the lens right on the subject. The MACRO setting is so good that I use it when I can't read the super tiny print on some warranties or hallmarks on some jewelry. You can focus on the thread materials of your shirt or pants. I can get right down into a flower bud or a spider on its web with out cropping the image. Also the color reality is just excellent. If you want, I can send you several ultra closeups taken with the S9900. I also use a D700, a D800 and a D810 full frame DSLRs and most folks can't tell if I used one of my $2K+ Cameras or the S9900 $300.00 Camera That is just a fabulous thing.. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The real deal- only camera you may need.
*by D***L on October 23, 2015*

Excellent Camera. I am an early adapter for Cameras. I always carry a camera. I am a Canon DSLR shooter-- D30, 1D, 1D MkII, 5D, 70D. My lenses include 400 f2.8, 200 f1.8, 85 f1.2, 70-200 f2.8, 100-400 f5.6+/-, 100 Macro, 24-70, a sigma 15-20 and probably a few more. My point and shoots used to be canon, but for the past four years have been using Nikon. I have purchased over 10 Nikon S6500s, most of them for less than $100. I am hard on cameras. I go through two or so a year. I also shoot a P510 for its long lens. With the Nikon S9900, I am almost at the tipping point to sell my DSLR. There are very few images that the Nikon S9900 cannot do well. I like the manual settings. I don't shoot raw and don't care its missing. There are three areas the camera lacks- sunsets, fast lenses (for bohke) and multiple fast images for sports photography. Otherwise, this camera pretty can pretty much take any image. I have been waiting for the P990 to become available and I can see my camera bag with only this camera and a P990 for the zoom. I may be ready to sell my 15k+ of glass. I included two images. One is wide zoom of the white house with a secret service officer on the roof and the other is of different secret service officer on the roof at full zoom. What a zoom!!!
