Abounding in Kindness: Writing for the People of God

This collection of essays and lectures given by Elizabeth Johnson covers many of the theological topics that she has studied and taught over the past decades and as recently as the past two years,i.e. a theology of creation in relation to the Creator. Each of the essays is thought provoking and pushes the readers to expand their understanding of God beyond the classical, patriarchal conceptualizations of past centuries. I find her writing full of insight and scholarly depth. I have read most of her books and I think that the essays in this book make a concise summary of themes which could lead the reader to seek out her other books for more extended study. I highly recommend this book to all students of theology, both undergraduate and graduate, and seminary.

This book is a keeper. Elizabeth Johnson has written a book for the average person on life's journey. Her reasoning, wide range of knowledge and deep reflection are abundantly on display on every page. Bravo Sr. Elizabeth!

Kindness is an excellent adjunct to Pope Francis' theme for his papacy. It is a good source for linking feminism, the most recent advances in the sciences, and Francis' exhortations to aid the poor, disadvantaged, the climate with the Catholic cultures. I read excerpts to my catechism students to aid in aligning their religious views with the modern culture.

This is a wonderful collection of Dr. Johnson's life-giving theology for the non-academic. Very readable. Her knowledge of theology is encyclopedic, and she brings it to bear on her subjects with great insight into the Christian tradition in contemporary times, including the environmental views expressed in Laudato Si. If you have never read Dr. Johnson, this is an excellent introduction to her work. If you have, it is an uplifting review of many of her ideas. If your ideas of God are becoming lifeless or rigid, Dr. Johnson welcomes you back to the living God.

Elizabeth Johnson writes with much historical, biblical and current cultural insight into the spiritual journey we as humans have taken. Our challenge at this transitional period in our evolution is to find new expansive, hopeful and joyful ways to image our situation as beloved creatures of a loving Creator.The writer is so adept at articulating our dilemmas, self stories, and the challenges of thinking anew and acting on the paths of change our faith in God must lead us to in today's world.

As always Elizabeth a. Johnson does not fail.

Elizabeth Johnson’s excellent scholarship and analysis yield rich insights expressed in beautifully crafted, in places even lyrical, prose. A wonderfully informative and compelling book!

Great book full of great ideas

Because this book is an anthology of some of Dr Johnson's writings it would be appropriate to review each article independently. I do not intend to do this but I would like to say that Elizabeth Johnson's works always inspire me to deepen my faith in the Divine Creator. Elizabeth provides a reason why there should be women priests. Rarely do we find theologians who can make sense of reality without resorting exclusively to reason. Her article on contemplation is superb and provides us with a new way of doing theology.
