To test the accuracy, I used my thermoworks signals for the ambient temperature in the smoker and the tel-tru was very consistent with the thermoworks. The build quality is excellent, and it doesn't hurt that they are manufactured in the United States (Rochester, NY). Over the last few years, I have purchased a good number of cheaper ($15-$20) thermometers, which are, A. not accurate, and B. become unusable after a few months.
