Used a t-shirt between iron and patch. Seems to work like a charm and adhesion even seems quite good around the edges. Time will tell if they stick but initially they seem to do the job. Each patch only costs $1. I believe they look nice and are high quality material in some sense, but I do not believe the adhesive is going to last for more than a few wash cycles. I probably will need to get a sewn on patch or just give up on the shirt (it's a well loved shirt). However, what can you really expect from an iron patch?
