Review: Indispensable book - "The Daily Ukulele" is the one indispensable book for anyone beginning or continuing to play ukulele. Not only does contain a lot of songs for the money, but unlike on other fake- or real- books you may try, there's no fluff here. Almost all the songs are timeless classics that either you already knew or will be delighted to know for the first time. Just look them up on YouTube and be impressed. The Beloffs have translated them painstakingly to the ukulele, changing the key when necessary and simplifying chords to make them easy to play. You will be hard pressed to find better chord sets out there. Do an Internet search and compare with what you find. They also mix the keys so they are not all in C, which is the easiest key for the ukulele, but also many in G (next easiest, and most popular in general because it's the easiest key for the guitar), in F (challenging because of the abundance of Bb chords), and other keys so you can learn those chords as well almost without noticing. The few pages before the songs are quite amazing too. There you'll find a comprehensive chord chart with actual fingerings, which kind of unusual, and quite useful if you are beginning. There's a short chapter on the difficult chords and to make them easier, including their famous pitch to try using your pinky as soon as possible to make the G chord and some others (they should add Em and B7 as well). I haven't found any other material out there, whether printed or online, that gives you such a useful advice. And then, there are several books, not just one. These are: 1. The original "Daily Ukulele," for soprano to tenor tuning. This is the book to get if you only want one. 2. The Leap Year edition, containing 366 more songs. Most are not so well known, but there are a wealth of famous titles that somehow couldn't fit in the second book. 3. The Baritone edition. This one you can skip if you already have the original edition since the only difference is the few intro pages and the chord diagrams at the head of each song. The key of each song is the same as in the original book, which seems like a wasted opportunity to come up with a few more exceptional chord sets, nuanced for the special characteristics of the baritone uke. Joining the first two titles together there are still a few well-known songs that maybe the authors should think of for the third volume of the series. Here's my wish list so far, which I'll be editing periodically to make it more complete: Birth of the Blues Big Rock Candy Mountain Blue Tail Fly Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde House of the Rising Sun Lida Rose Malaika Man of Constant Sorrow Mañana (Is Soon Enough for Me) O Sole Mio Santa Lucia She Wore a Yellow Ribbon Someone to Lava (from Pixar's short) Somewhere over the Rainbow Stormy Weather Tears in Heaven Too Fat Polka Torna a Surriento I'll think of more... Keep up the good job! Review: Fantastic Book - I am a new ukulele player. I received a ukulele from my son for Mother's Day. Here it is just 2 months later, and I am really enjoying it. I had no experience with this instrument prior to receiving this gift. I am able to play a number of songs from this book. Yes, there are songs for intermediate players also, so those will be my challenge to learn. This book will last me a long time, if I try to play and learn every song in it. Which I intend to do. There is a big variety of music types that make it suitable for a Ukulele Club too. If you play the guitar, this book is for you also. My son plays both the guitar and ukulele and uses this book for both instruments. This book will allow me to play a variety of songs, so when I play for other people it will be a lot of fun. I really love the spiral binding and the book lays flat. The songs are all on the same page, so there is no turning of pages when you are playing a song. I love the chord boxes at the top of each song which clearly shows how to play the chord on the ukulele. If I am unfamiliar with a particular song, I go to YouTube and look it up. Someone is either singing or playing that song. Then I go back to the book and I can usually play the song. But what was even more valuable for me was the Introduction pages. There is one page in particular which shows 3 ways to play a Bb chord, which is usually very difficult for beginners, including me. This opened up my world and makes it possible for me to play more songs than I thought possible. Also, there is a tip on playing the G chord and being able to change to other chords effortlessly that are not in other books. There are more tips, but these two tips have helped me accelerate my playing to a new level. I also purchased the Leap Year book and I am looking forward to getting it. If the author writes another book, I will buy it too. I recommend using these two books, which will give you over 700 songs. Its cheaper than printing these songs off the internet (if you can find them).

A great resource
This book is huge with a great variety of songs. I love how it's laid out and designed similar to cookbook with plastic binding. This way you just lay the book flat without needing to awkwardly turn to the second page of song while you're playing it. In addition to letter chord notation, all the chords are laid out in diagram form at the top, so you have a quick referance to a chord you may have forgotten, or never played before. I went to one of Jim Beloff's workshops last summer when the book was still in development. Jim is the real thing; his love of ukulele music and it's history is evident in person and in this book. There are great photos seemingly from the '20's and '30's duirng one the uke heydays, of people with their ukes. The songs cover so many different styles; holiday (not just Christmas) songs, kid songs, rock, country, folk, show tunes and Tin Pan Alley. The latter I love; the minor chords used in those songs are so perfect on the ukulele. The book covers well over 100 years of American music, which is great, but while the oldest songs are Stephen Foster (1860's), I didn't see much more modern songs than Sting's "Fields of Gold," from the 1990's. The again, there hasn't been much good music to my ears since then. Overall, it's a wonderful book pulled together by Jim and Liz with a lot love. The good thing is, you'll enjoy exploring this book a little at a time, and have to live a long time in order to play each and every song.

A lot of songs you have heard part of, once.
For what this book is, it does it well. I have been playing ukulele for close to 20 years, in that time I have never had a dedicated sight reading book specific to the instrument. With that purpose in mind I made this purchase. It is nice to have a years worth of tunes to build up the habit of daily sight reading without the temptation of tablature. This is not a method book, though diligent study of it will certainly advance your playing. This should be used to supplement a good teacher and or a method book. It should be noted that many tunes have been simplified for ease of playing, however most fakebooks take liberties with the source material. Some of the tunes are cheesy, some are not. That is no exclusive to this book. While “she’ll be coming around the mountain” and about 30 other tunes in the book will probably never be played by anyone (ever) in earnest, there is a good mix of jazz, country, early rock, folk, pop, Hawaiian and spiritual standards (ie songs you have heard part of, once) to balance that out. If you want something more specific to a certain style, get a fake book. But, if you want something that can be used to either sight read or practice while you get exposure to new songs and styles in an approachable format, this is the book.

This songbook is great!
What a wonderful book! I've spent days going through every song, marking what I want to work on in the days to come. There are so many favorites of mine in here, and songs I've loved and forgotten about. Old spirituals, folk songs, Rock n Roll, Broadway, more contemporary favorites are all here. There's really something for just about everyone, except maybe heavy metal fans, lol. There's even small separate sections in the back for some holiday songs and children's songs, to play for your little ones or grandkids. I've taken to listening to ones I'm not familiar with on Youtube, to see if they're something I'd like to learn, and there are many of those as well. In fact, a Youtube search of many of the old traditional folk songs or old classics contained in the book yields a surprising number of remakes by various artists. Here's an example of a Merle Travis song that had been done by Johnny Cash, and then ZZ Top: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2aqvKY6zLc . For the most part the chords are relatively easy in this book, though some songs are a little more complex. This book is obviously a well-thought-out labor of love, and I'm so glad I bought it. It will keep me busy for many months to come.

Fantastic book for ukulele, guitar, piano, etc.!
I have hundreds of music books I have accumulated over multiple decades to use for piano, guitar, cello, etc. I bought this "ukulele" book to use with all of my instruments because of the simplified chord arrangements in lead sheet format (melody, lyrics, and chords). This has already become one of my "top 10" books (maybe favorite book!) due to the variety of songs spanning decades of music, multiple genres of music, and familiar music familiar to all age groups (children to seniors). This and the similar "Daily Ukulele Leap Year Edition" gives me over 700 songs that I can use when playing for groups, at home, or any time I don't want to spend a lot of time practicing, but rather just enjoy the music. I have trouble putting the book down when I play the songs on piano, and also playing a lot now on my guitar, which is a newer instrument for me. If I had to pick just two fake books to have on a deserted island, these would be the books! One caution, most of the music is from the 70's or earlier, so don't expect to find current hits in this book.

Enjoy Many Familiar Melodies
This book includes a variety of well known tunes, and many have chords which are easy to play. It is a great resource for beginners who are ready to learn new selections as they increase their skills.

What A Joy For Any One Learning the Ukulele.
I am almost 70 years young (not ready for the carpet slippers just yet) and I have always loved banjo and ukulele music. Being a lover of George Formby, who I saw live at Blackpool in 1956 when I was just twelve years old. George played the Ukulele in two versions, (the guitar shaped and the banjo style) but was more famous for his Banjo Ukulele. The Banjo Ukulele is the one I have, which is a Ozark, mid priced model, which has an antique style Remo head, 12 brass brackets and flange, with the resonator and neck in antique mahogany left in a matt finish. I just love it. Anyway, I am not here to discuss about the instrument, but to review this wonderful song book, made for the Ukulele player. I can honestly say that I am familiar with most of the songs in this book and everyone of them are not too difficult for the beginner. I have been playing for about two months now and I am still a bit finger twisted in getting all the chords in tune with the right fingers, but it's just a matter of practising as much as you can, without upsetting the neighbours (lol). The songs are so easy to follow with the chord diagrams and although it takes a bit of time to get into the rhythm, after a few times going over the same song, it starts to sound much better. Some are very easy, some reasonably easy, some a bit more difficult and some are just about manageable with a lot of practice, but you can't expect to play like George Formby in two months. This is about the best compilation of songs and music you are likely to find for the ukulele or the four string banjo/ukulele which does sound slightly different than the guitar style ukulele, but the strings are just the same for both. So don't be put off if you only have a banjo ukulele, you can still play from this book. A word of warning, don't buy the Kindle version, you need the hard copy, as others have found out. This is important if you want to play from it and make sure you have a music stand, as it is quite a large book and heavy too (well it has got 365 songs) so a bit thicker than an ordinary sheet of music. You won't be disappointed if you want to be able to rattle of a good view tunes, as variety is what you will get from this bundle of joy. Best music book I have bought since I bought Ukulele for Dummies, which again is the best book for any beginner, as are all the Dummies series of books.

365 Songs for a better living - Der Name ist Programm
"365 Songs for a better living" ist nicht untertrieben. Ich hab das Buch ausgepackt und gleich losgeschrammelt. Essential for the ukulele player
There are songs from all eras, and variety of chord complexities. I was surprised at how many songs I knew and could play right away. Beginners can start with the 3-4 chords songs, but soon you will want to be playing more complicated pieces. After a year and a half, I still find this to be a great book, and as I continue to improve, the songs get easier!
