Fun thing
It works with the kit, does not quite work on real locks as easy as it seems(locked shed and left keys in the shed)

Luxebell Lock Picks
This entry level lock pick set is good enough to get you started and to let you see if this is something you'd want to pursue more, but I don't think it'd last you a long time and you'd want to be upgrading to a more durable set in a short space of time. This set has:Bent snake rake,Double ball/snowman,Half diamond,Jag,Large snake rake,Long hook,Pyramid,Short hook,Single sided rake,Slight hook,Slim short hook,Snake rake,Torque wrench,Hook type torque wrench,3x Z type tension wrenches,A clear acrylic training padlock, clear euro style lock and clear cylinder lock. The picks and wrenches come in a fabric, zipped case and the acrylic locks come in plactic boxes. The picks are good enough to learn on the acrylic locks and I had all three opened in a very short space of time. The rakes are very quick methods of entry to the locks, but I prefer single pin picking. I have tried these on various 'real' locks and have managed to open them, but I have less confidence in the strength of the picks once I have tried them on actual locks. You can feel a flex in the metal which makes it harder to feel feedback from the pins you are picking. The metal could probably benefit from polishing (although at this price it is not something i'd quibble over) and this is something you could do yourself. The cylinder lock is frustrating to learn from as the two holes that go through the body actually block your view of the pins.Whilst this comes with a wide variety of picks, you would not use many of them on a regular basis. Personally my advice would be to purchase acrylic training locks seperately and then to buy a smaller selection of higher quality picks from other sources and learn with these. (for example a slim hook, deep hook, long hook, short hook, a basic rake). As an entry level set of picks I can't really fault these, but if you are serious about Locksport then you will soon want to be upgrading and it may be better to spend the same or similar money on fewer, higher quality picks from the start. These are good for what they are, but not great.

Initial impressions - Just opened the package to check (its a present for someone else)
Initial impressions are; There are 4 locks - one, the small cylinder with long metal bar protruding is rather hard (near impossible) to see the pins moving - this is because I think the refraction of light (due to the product shape) hides them. The others are really interesting to watch though. The padlock in particular is really clear to see the workings as they move. There is no explanation for how to use the many tools in the box. There is a quick start guide of about 8 steps showing how to use two tools to open one lock. What the tools all are and what type of locks they are all for is totally up to you to guess. I'm going to contact the seller about this, but unless my box was missing something, you'll need to get a book or something in addition. The key feels a bit rough to push in on a couple of locks, presumably due to them being brand new and they'll get smoother with a bit of use - like a brand new lock on a house door. I don't think this will be an issue. The locks are individually packaged in little plastic boxes which looks smartThe tools, I didn't look at so cannot commentOverall, as puzzles go, I think this will keep my son occupied for a while at Christmas. If I'm being picky, I wonder how easy it is to pick these things when they're not actually in a lock casing. Presumably you have to hold them in one hand while tools are in the other whereas if you picked a house lock for example, you have two free hands to hold the tools. No other set addresses this concern, so I hope it'll be okay for small dexterous fingers.

Frightening proof of how insecure locks really are
Bought out of absurd curiosity … and almost wished I hadn’t.My insurance company demands five lever locks on all accessible doors which lulled me in sense of security. So why would anyone have a legitimate reason to by such a thing? Surely this is a buglar’s training toolkit, right? Worse, this is a full kit to break into other people’s property. All of this is true; but we could argue the same of many human discoveries from the Internet to nuclear power.Criminals don’t care either way and they will obtain such kits via any means. Besides which, in the UK there’s a law which allows police officers to arrest someone for simply being in possession of such an item without a reasonable explanation (“going equipped”). This applies even if you’re not actually on your way to burgle someone so it’s not the sort of thing you should let your kids take to school for “show and tell”.The real takeaway from this kit was the horrifying realisation that many of my locks are nowhere near as secure as I had (ignorantly) imagined and can be bypassed in seconds once you have the practise. It comes with three locks, all beautifully made and encapsulated in clear resin so it’s possible to see how each works with the supplied keys, and that’s before you try picking them.I was thankful that my bike padlock is fitted (at the insurance company’s insistence) with more recent type of lock that these picks are unable to crack. Not that it can’t be broken, just that it’s more difficult to crack. It might sound a little crazy but for twenty quid, these are a really good buy. Particularly if you need to convince yourself that you need to look for better locks when it comes to protecting yourself, your loved ones and possessions.Scary, but very good value. Oh, and it’s nowhere near as easy as the computer games make it look though.
