Looking for a modern slippy?
Can't believe this knife doesn't have more reviews. As with all the knife reviews I'll do, skip to the bottom for the bottom line... Utility: It's non-locking. Let me re-emphasize: it's non-locking. However, it has a fairly robust backspring meaning for ~95% of your daily chores, the lack of lock will not make a bit of difference, assuming you know how to use a knife safely. This is at least the 2nd generation of this knife, and the backspring has been beefed up, but don't treat this as you would a locking blade and realize that certain tasks, like cutting thick cardboard, where the blade may get stuck making you pull to and fro, could be more dangerous. However, more EDC-type chores like package opening, cutting apples, even light whittling, have absolutely no issues. Handle Design: Grippy and made of FRN (Fiber-Reinforced-Nylon), it's a screwed construction with a partial flow through design and the contours add to its ergonomics. The handle sports a nice choil just shy of the actual cutting edge of the blade. The utility of a choil on a slipjoint is not to be underestimated; it allows for more control in cutting and better security in keeping the knife open. It lends itself very well to a saber grip. No hot spots that I've noticed, the clip does not get in the way, and FRN is quite durable. It has a torx bit adjusted pivot. There is NO lanyard hole. Blade Design: A well designed, satin finished, ~3", full flat ground, drop point blade with a ~2.6" cutting edge (get used to somewhat muted cutting-edge/total-edge ratios with Spyderco). Full flat grind makes it a very nice slicer. Gimping is deep and in abundance on the top and bottom of the blade choil, again adding to security in keeping your hand from moving while gripping the knife. Steel: The blade rocks CTS-BD1 carpenter steel (NOT Gin-1 as listed on Amazon. As far as I know, Spyderco hasn't used that for several years). Not the equivalent of VG10 in edge-holding quality, but it's no slouch and takes a razor sharp edge with good corrosion resistance. Rust has not been a problem, though the blade can almost seem to take on a very faint patina at times...It's washes off, but it's actually quite odd (and purely aesthetic). Clip: It's a stainless steel, though not particularly shiny, wire clip that's fairly deep carry. Something like .25-.5" of the knife stick out of the pocket. Retention is good, and you can notice Spyderco's attention to detail as they put their logo, which is relatively smooth, under the end of the pocket clip reducing friction and making extraction from your pocket easier. Weight: ~2oz. Extremely light, given its size, but still feels good in-hand. Fit and Finish; No side-to-side blade play.Decent walk and talk. Knife is basically flush at the back. Came quite sharp and centered. No real complaints. Deployment: Spyderco's famous Spyder Hole. It has a very smooth opening, though do note that there is a half stop. After a bit of practice, slipjoint or not, one-handed opening/closing is fairly easy. You can also do the "Spyder drop" if you're so inclined. Misc: The "UK" portion of the knife was chosen to denote the fact that this knife is legal in the UK, which, relative to most of the states, has strict knife laws. Thus is the reason this knife sports a half stop, no lock, and sub-3" blade. The upshot of this is that it is legal most anywhere in the US and is a fairly non-threatening knife (relative to something like an Emerson or Zero Tolerance). Value (TL:DR) At ~$40 you won't find many other knives that fill the niche this knife does. For what it is, a legal everywhere, clipped, non-locking, lightweight, ~2.5" Spyderco with decent stainless steel, it's a worthy buy.

Light weight heavy hitter!
Blade weighs next to nothing, with the deep carry wire clip the blade melts into the pocket and don't even know it's in there. BD1N is an excellent steel. Takes a fine edge and holds it for a good long while. Almost completely corrosion resistant, no need to keep it oiled, only clean it with soap and water and keep it dry. Excellent for a backup blade and the situations where a large blade that opens fast may not be appropriate. Large enough and strong enough for any EDC task yet small and light enough to carry comfortably in any kind of clothes. Perfect little blade.

Great Knife, But May Need Work Before Your Trip...
An excellent knife for European travel, or any jurisdiction that prohibits locking blades. One-handed opening, with distinct detents at half-open and full-open. It takes a bit of effort to close, which is good for a non-locking blade. The handle is long enough for a full grip when using the choil, and is shaped so that my hand falls naturally into that grip. Good gimping on choil and thumb ramp, plus adequate scale checkering, should provide secure protection, yet checkering is not so aggressive that I'd expect quick pocket wear. Time will tell... I got the leaf blade shape, and that seems good for general use. A weight of only 1.7 oz should be so light as to make the knife unnoticeable in a pocket. The wire frame clip is reversible for right or left hand carry, but is tip up only. It's positioned for "deep concealment", another plus. I do wish that the clip were black, though, but I'll work on that separately. The reason for the one star reduction is that this knife arrived very dull - by far the dullest Spyderco I've ever seen. Nothing that can't be fixed, but plan to spend some time with a good sharpening system before leaving on your trip, just in case.

Great UK-friendly blade
I bought this for travel in UK where locking blades are prohibited, length is regulated Its a excellent slip joint locking mechanism with a good quality flat ground blade, very slicey. I wouldn’t call it a hard worker, but it serves its purposefor light utility work

Expectations blown away for slip joint Spyder
Ergonomics are amazing, feels like my para 3 in hand. Love the leaf shape blade, came with perfect bevel and heat treat. BD1N having no problems slicing so far. FRN is good as always, almost has a G10 like feel to it. Deep carry wire pocket clip. After adjusting the pivot I can now open and close with one hand. Great modern traditional for the money.

Recieved Slightly Different Knife
Great little knife, but the one I recieved has a blade with a hollow grind. It's not an issue, but I did not recieve the exact same knife that is described. The knife is five stars, but I'm dissappointed that I got what I think is an older and discontinued model of this knife for the same price as the most current version.

Best Knife on The Market For The Money
Tight budget? This is the best value I can think of in an everyday carry knife; very sharp; easy to sharpen on the Spyderco Sharpmaker too; light as a feather; useful shape & size blade; useful as a money clip; the clip will not damage your slacks; will not scare people if you need to open a box or slice your steak. Would make a great gift. I have a number of big time and expensive knives.....believe me.... this is best $50.00 you can spend on a knife.

Was will man mehr? Es passt hervorragend in die Hosentasche, man spürt es eigentlich nicht. Und hat es immer dabei. Man muss halt wissen, was man will bzw. braucht.

I am not a knife freak - just a normal bloke who occasionally needs a pocket knife to cut things ;-) Serious knife freaks might say that it could be a little sharper out of the box but it is fine for my purposes. The blade holds an edge adequately for my purposes too - and let's be honest - if you can't sharpen a knife then you probably shouldn't be carrying one. This knife also comes with in "leaf" shape blade - which I think looks better - but in my humble opinion, the drop point is a little easier to live with in terms of function. This is a lovely quality product which fits in the hand well and inspires confidence. The one-handed open operation works like a dream. This knife has a slip-joint and is UK legal - the clever design makes it almost impossible for the blade to close on your finger as there is a neat spot for your finger (away from the cutting edge) which stops the blade from closing. It is light-weight but also feels sturdy. The wire clip on the reverse is more than adequate to keep it in place either in a bag or a pocket. It really is a great every day pocket knife.

Cordialement . Jacques D.
