Great Fun!
This is the first in the Unbelievable Mister Brownstone series, and it was a fun read. The barbecue-loving hero is a bounty hunter who like his life simple. So, of course, things get complicated. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a great job giving voice to a man who doesn't have a lot to say--unless it's about barbecue. Strong language, lots of action and violence. I will be listening to the rest of the series as I drive a lot for my profession.

4-1/2'stars.
I enjoyed this story. What is Jane's Brownstone? Even he doesn't know. This is actuon-packed filled with violence and humor. James for fights monsters and evil humans. He saves a girl and searches for her mother. James loves to kill villains, but confesses his sins to his priest. He also loves barbecue. The plot has twists and a good pace. I will be reading the rest of this series.

Here I go agaim1
I found Michael Anderle's The Kurtherian Gambit series about a year ago on Amazon...& became thoroughly enthralled in his exciting & brilliantly written stories of merging the changing world on Earth & Beyond into the Stars in other Universes, with the most captivating characters I have ever read. When the series ended, I freaked! Now what am I gonna do?I am a 67 yr woman, who wasvinjured in a freak industrial accident almost 47 yrs ago. The past 12 years have been spent almost entirely in bed. I have always been a voracious reader from a very young age & love most genres.Michael's world's captivate & delight me! I transitioned to The Leira Chronicles next, then The School of Necessary Magic followed where I encountered Izzie, Leira Beren's daughter, her new best friend, Alison Anderson & her bounty hunter friend, James Brownstone. So here I am...beginning book 2 of James's story & am really looking forward to getting to follow his adventures. Now I have a dilemma...I have BBQ on the brain 24/7!!! And I can't get out of bed & cook for myself!! Thank God for Doordash! I saved the BBQ Sauce recipes included in book 1 for future use & to share with friends! Drat you, Michael Anderle & Bless you more!!! I read about a book a day right now & luckily I have many more Michael Anderle & his collaborative co-horts to look forward to!!! Check out all his books!

fast paced action
Fast paced action which includes magic. Brownstone has an internal struggle between the violence his job requires and the goodness of his soul.

Very Nice Surprise!
I was expecting something along the same lines of this author's other books (and collaborations), but this one was a distinct surprise. As much as I've enjoyed some of his other story lines and characters, after a while some of them can become variations of a theme of snark and familiarity. The oft-time common problem of Familiarity fighting off breeding Contempt. (Don't mistake me, as I'm still reading the others.)This one, however, struck an entirely different chord. What's the easiest way to describe it?Well, this first book in the series has reminded me of so many of the things I liked so much about the early Dresden Files books. For Dresden fans, that ought to suffice to say enough.I may have found a new gritty, tough, simple-but-complex, albeit reluctant hero to replace Harry Dresden, which pleases me quite a lot.I'm starting this series rather late in the game (10 books available on Kindle), and it's my fervent hope that as I start reading more of them I discover the character has developed into the protagonist strongly hinted at in this first book.I'm a bit too lazy to figure out how to connect to the author on his homepage, or whatever. However, if I was so inclined to figure out how to contact him ...I'd congratulate and compliment him on the unexpected birth of a character that, for me, holds out a tantalizing degree of promise to become a character of the sort masterfully brought to life by such story masters as Heinlein, Zelazny and Butcher. Here's hoping I haven't jinxed things by rating it so well, so early, before buying the second book. ;)

a great plot
This is one of my favorite Andersen stories, lots of twists, lots of action, lots of unanswered questions… the cliff hanger continues!

2nd Time Read
I seldom read a book for a second time, I can't keep up with all the books by great writers whose work I want to enjoy. The books I've read a second time have all been written by award winning authors who have been admitted to some genres Hall of Fame. I don't know if Mr. Anderle will be recognized as being in a group with the likes of Bob Heinlein, Rita McCaffrey, J. R. R. Tolkien, Doug Adams, Octavia Butler or Andre Norton (I've been reading Science Fiction and Fantasy before it was cool), but this book is awesome. The barrier between Earth and another planet in a parallel dimension has broken down. Oriceran (?) is a planet of magic wielders comprised of creatures who are the stuff of fantasy and legend (Elves - both Light and Dark, trolls, etc) and some of which that don't even have legends. The protagonist is a bad asz bounty hunter who tracks down extreme bad guys, whether magical, users of magic or just plain nasty humans. He helps a young blind girl, runs afoul of a Japanese gang, rescues an Elven Princess who has been tortured and dies while slaughtering bad guys of all types. This is a grand adventure that continues into other books and continues to entertain.

Complexes characters, not perfect, rich, but very good heart.
I really liked this book because Browstone is a person thrives for a simpler life, living in a time that magic is a new reality to the humans together with mystical beens like orks, elfs, witches, and much more. His life gets more complex when he help a girl who's mother desapered , and get involved in a very complicate situation.

Interesting
This first novel about a world torn apart and a bounty hunter and an archaeologist who join forces against those with bad intentions and black souls.A young Half-Blood girl , blind who is magical becomes a ward to the two combatants after her mother's death . An interesting first novel which I intend to read to the end novel of the series and discover what awaits our heroes .

Tons of Action
If you like chaos and revenge, Mr. Brownstone is your man. Story moves quickly with excellent action. Little in the way of descriptive material except blood and guts. I liked it.

First but not the last
A first book by this author for me, but definitely not the last! Amazing characters and a world and story to get lost in. Unconventional characters that you get behind and grow to love. This will definitely a series that I will be continuing (eventually ;-)!!) . If you enjoy Shane Silvers and E. A. Copen you will definitely enjoy this one!!!
