Make Your Own Teddy Bears: Instructions and Full-Size Patterns for Jointed and Unjointed Bears and Their Clothing (Dover Crafts: Dolls & Toys)

You get exactly what you ask for with this book.
This book is an excellent starting point to learn how to sew a teddy bear and clothes for them. The patterns are printed on the books pages and not on tissue, but that's nothing you can't fix with tracing paper. It only shows you how to create a single style of bear, but you can always tweak and alter the patterns yourself to suit your needs.Want to make a monster teddy, trace the pattern onto clear paper and use a projector to project the pattern pieces on a wall and trace the projection as large as you need it. Just be certain you don't move the projector until you have all of the pieces traced.

Finished bear does not look like advertised pictures
The nose is too pointy, as in some of the commenters photos. The clothes fo not fit well. The dress pattern instructions for the sleeves was poorly written. Overall instructions were vague, no photos for step by step instructions. I wonder about people who gave this book a good review. I’ve seen for many years. I don’t recommend this book

Very disappointing
I had this book about 20 years ago but I have mislaid it I bought what I thought was the same book it had same cover ectBut what a shock I had when it came , it was a shadow of its former self the old book had patterns for around 10-12 different bears of all different sizes including their clothes the instructions in the old book were fantastic and it was good quality paper and hardbacked, it also has a lot of extra information including chapters on the history of teddy bears ,there was This lot of information about fabric thread and even a trouble shooting sectionThis book is dreadful it has ONE pattern for ONE bear the instructions are poor the paper is poor, the information is scant as are the instructions a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEYThe pattern for the near in the book is far too big and quite generic the pattern is the same if you choose the jointed or unjointed bear this was not the case in the original bookIt's too much trouble to send it back so I stuck with it , I now need to look for another patternI am very annoyed that a This book looks like one thing but is in fact a totally different thingDon't waste your moneyb

Great book if you have some sewing experience
I found this book super easy to use. However, I am have been sewing for over 40 years and understand the terms used. My friend did not. If you have never sewn before, don't start with a heritage bear, get a more basic pattern and when you've got a bit of experience under your belt, you'll find it much easier to follow. Great book, great patterns. Use tracing paper to copy them on to card (use pencil when tracing and rub the pencil mark onto stiff card, then cut the card patterns out) and draw round the card pattern onto the fur fabric. Do not pin pattern pieces and use tailor's tacks to mark on fabric the location of eyes, nose, ears etc.

A great start for a beginner.
Three years ago I lost my grandfather and when I was left with a large bag of his clothes I decided to use them to make teddy bears for he family. I have never made any kind of soft toy before and I ahead no idea where to start. The book has temp.ates for various bears and some patterns for clothes. I learnt very quickly, used one of the patterns from the book and adapted it to suit my needs. I am now on teddy bear number 6. Please see a photo of one of my most recent bears.

Easy to make
I am not a beginner but I do think that someone with a little sewing machine knowledge could make teddies with this pattern. It can be cut out to size easily and kept. I am in the process of making 6 memory bears and am happy with this pattern. I have bought others and not used them. This one I find very good and am happy with the first completed teddy. The Great grandchildren even place a felt heart inside the teddy.

More instructions needed
Being an experienced seamstress I bought this book to do my first memory bear.i found the instructions weren't easy to understand and should have had a few more diagrams to illustrate. This was the hardest thing I have made due to the fact that there were some instructions that seemed to be missing I has to work things out for myself.
