Cracking novel and insight into the nomadic mind and survival skills.
One of the most incredible books I have read in many a year. Not only a cracking novel by an outstanding author, but a must read for anyone interested in the tribes of North Africa, their belief systems and survival skills.

Fantastic Read
This book comes with a hidden message and so does the follow -up - The Eyes of theTuareg - which I have sadly not found in English as yet.I am a fan of this author and read several of his books and definitely would recommend this one.

Amazing book
This book is one of the most interesting books that I've red in a while. It gives an idea of the life and culture of the Touareg people, as well as food for thought for the human nature and values in general...

A classic
This is the most moving tale of the Tuareg life, customs, tales, and beliefs, with a twist at the end which will leave you, as many of Vazquez Figueroa's books do, with an almost physical pain, reflecting the sometimes cruel nature of life itself. Accounts of Tuareg tales, such as the family feud which led to a small child being buried alive in the dunes with the mother digging in countless places to find him before death, will leave you with a far deeper understanding of the harsh life of the desert environs and the people who survive there. The description of the 'empty lands' and what must be done there to survive is fantastic and almost, were it not true, unbelievable.I can't believe it has taken 30 years to translate this masterpiece to the English language.Simply, a great book. A Marvellous Book Poorly Translated
This is a truly marvellous book, but unfortunately the translation by Vicky Collier in the O Books edition is a travesty. Full of grammatical and syntax errors, it continuously distracts the reader from the story. Did not anyone think to check the translation? How can an apparently reputable publisher allow something like this? And who is this translator anyway?I strongly suggest that O Books withdraw this edition and ask someone qualified to translate the text properly. Mr. Vazquez-Figueroa deserves much better than this, and so do his readers.
