The Shirley Temple Collection, Vol. 1: Heidi / Curly Top / Little Miss Broadway / Captain January / Just Around the Corner / Susannah of the Mounties

I grew up on Shirley Temple movies. Her movies were happy, funny, and clean, maybe a little drama but always G rated and happy endings. Not like some movies made for children these days.

I'm not old enough to have watched these films when they were first released, but I have fond memories of watching these on my parents' black-and-white television more than fifty years ago. As such, these vintage films bring back images of a simpler time.I had already purchased volume three, and have now expanded my collection to also include volume one. Buying these collections out of sequence is of little consequence since the film titles are not presented in chronological order. Here are the six films contained in this set:"Heidi" (1937, 88 min., rated G) One of Shirley Temple's best known films--and among her best. (Certainly in the top three!)"Curly Top" (1935, 76 min., rated G) This film features the signature song "Animal Crackers in My Soup.""Little Miss Broadway" (1936, 72 min., rated PG) Jimmy Durante is among the cast members."Captain January" (1936, 76 min., rated G) Includes a dance scene with Buddy Ebsen called "At the Codfish Ball.""Just Around the Corner" (1938, 70 min., rated G) This was the last Shirley Temple film to include Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Bert Lahr also makes an appearance as the chauffeur."Susannah of the Mounties" (1939, 79 min., rated PG) Even though the film also starred Randolph Scott, by 1939 Shirley Temple's films began to decline at the box office and she would make only two more films for 20th Century Fox before she was let out of her contract.Note: All films are presented on separate discs. Each disc contains the original black-and-white film as well as a colorized version.Shirley Temple was the No. 1 box office draw four years in a row from 1935-1938. [ Note: She was the No. 2 box office draw for the decade--the No. 1 for the decade was Clark Gable.] During her stint at 20th Century Fox, her singing, dancing and acting lit up the screen. I dare you to watch these films and not feel your spirits lifted. What more can you ask of a movie? VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I have always loved Shirley Temple movies, so I decided to get a couple of sets to watch anytime I want. These are good quality movies. I have not watched them all yet, but they are in good shape and have a good picture. You can choose black and white or color. I would recommend this set,

No bulk. All DVDs within are separate films. But the case is slim for easy storage. Great classics and great quality. Easy to use. The menu isn’t hard to navigate on each. My children can do it (6 year olds)

The quality of these movies are just as good as my video's maybe even better. and these sets are a lot cheaper then the others that have only 3 movies each on them. These have 6 movies on 6 dvd's in each box. The first collection the movies were mixed up from what it says but is easy to put themin the right order. The 2nd Collection is in the right order but the last one (Wee Willie Winkle) does not have a picture on the dvd the name is in red, but... has good quality. So no big deal. The 3rd collection one is all in order and I didn't see anything wrong. Mind you I only checked the beginning of the first movie in each box. So hopefully the quality stays good and no other problems with any of them. (It will take a while though). Once I have watched them all I will come back if there are anyproblems.

I just received all 3 volumes today! I like the packaging. Of course, the films themselves are classic and wonderful. I'm only rating the entire collection 4 stars because for some reason, "Our Little Girl" (1935) and "Poor Little Rich Girl" (1936) are not included. Why, 20th Century Fox??? Why would you leave those 2 films out of this collection??? If they were included, it would have been a perfect 20 film collection.

I just got this dvd set yesterday and am very impressed with the quality. I expected there to be one or two disks to house this 6 movie set. Instead there are 6 disks , One movie on each disk. The disks are very solid and thick not flimsy like some are. The quality of the film is excellent. There are 2 versions on each disk , Black and white or color. I already watched two movies last nite. She really was such a talented little girl. I love the scene where she dances with Buddy Epson , Classic. I would purchase again ! 👍

Shirley Temple was America's Sweetheart throughout her life. She brought hope to a nation suffering through the Great Depression and was honored by President Roosevelt for her work. When she danced with "Bojangles", to me it was just a little girl dancing with an older gentleman. But it was the first time that a bi racial "couple" danced together on film. As a US Ambassador she stood out. As a breast cancer survivor she spoke out even before Betty Ford. It's so sad that the current President could not be bothered flying the flag at half staff as he did for Whitney Houston. Who had a longer impact? My friends and I gathered around the TV to have an "evening" with Shirley, thanks to your wonderful collection. Thank you!

Got all of them for my granddaughter. She loves every single one.

I grow up with Shirley Temple so movies are everything I remember.Great collection.

It was a Christmas gift. The price was right and it on time.
