Temps quickly and easily from the tip of the probe
Bought this for work. Temps quickly and easily from the tip of the probe. Outperforms and outlasted all of the other thermometers that the Boss has purchased through commercial sites. Thought somebody broke it one day when I came to work and it wouldn't turn on. Changed the battery and worked fine. Re-calibration capability and NSF certification were necessary to use on the job. I hate to say it, this thing is always abused by my co-workers and I always threaten to take it back home as I paid for it out of my own pocket, but I'm the one who dropped this thing in the hot fryer two weeks ago and thought It was done for. Wiped it clean with a rag, turned it on and re-calibrated it. Was shocked and supremely grateful to find it still worked! Every other thermometer gets dropped and breaks open or the steam from the fryer kills the display. This was worth the money.

Excellent for wax works
I got this thermometer a long time ago (about 2 yrs) and it is an excellent thermometer. I got it to use for measuring temperatures while making wax melts. It's very accurate, and durable.

Excellent For Deep Fryer
Spot on right out of the box. I use it when deep frying and works perfect. Its waterproof so the build quality is better. Been using it since 2019 and still on same batteries, and still works great. I would certainly buy again.

but it is pretty fast. For the money it can hardly be ...
It's not an instant temp reading, but it is pretty fast. For the money it can hardly be beat. I've had several other digital thermometers at a similar price and this is the best I have used so far. It seems reasonably water resistant. The extra length is welcome for my application as well. Factory calibration was close, but I corrected it by a degree or so in the ice water slurry test. The correction feature is very welcome.

Excellent and necessary product for all brewers
This makes for a very nice brewer's thermometer. It's water resistant, so no worries if it gets wet or accidently falls into your wort. The build quality is quite nice. I love the length of the thermometer. Makes for very easy readings deep within the liquid. I liked it so much, I purchased a second one for a brewing buddy of mine. Recommended for all brewers!

Accurate and on the money
I needed a long thermometer primarily for homebrewing and also to have a little more wiggle room when grilling.Being that I already own the smaller version (DTQ450X), I figured this was a safe bet. I am not disappointed with the purchase.I keep this connected to the brew pot the whole time, three batches later it works great! On occasion it'll get a little too steamed up and turn off. (letit cool off for a min and it'll turn back on) For how long it is exposed to the heat and steam it does very well. The accuracy seems even closer than its little cousin, but it does have a calibration button just in case.I'd recommend!

Great for all grain brewers
I bought this to brew beer and use in the kitchen. I'm an all grain brewer so I need to accurately measure my temps. I've ruined a lot of "water resistant" thermometers brewing with them but this is doing great so far, where all of the others I've tried in the past would get moisture inside of them and act up or stop working. I just used it to brew a batch of cream ale and I had a pretty thin mash and I accidentally dropped this into the mash tun. It fell straight to the bottom (about 3ft) for a good 30 seconds but I was able to get it out and it was perfectly fine. The length of the probe (all jokes aside) really helps to measure my mash temps. I used the metal clip it came with to attach the thermometer to my kettle when I started to chill the wort and the steam didn't affect it at all.The next day I used it to check the temp on smoked chicken and pork ribs and that worked great as well.

Wish I bought this sooner!
Love this thermometer. I purchased it mainly to observe the temp of water I use for pasteurization of my home made cider. The clip makes it very easy to keep the thermometer visible without having to hold it so I can focus on the bottles in the pot. Works great and as far as I can tell is giving me accurate readings.

Does it’s job
I’m using this as a candy thermometer and I’d say it’s pretty quick. It also seems to be accurate. Overall, happy with my purchase

Not practical for commercial use as doesn’t have a temp alarm function.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because it’s not very practical for commercial use as it doesn’t have a temp alarm function for candy/fudge/caramel making. In a candy or confection kitchen, rarely will someone stand right beside a 25lb batch of candy to wait for it to get to temp. Their other candy thermometer does this, and is cheaper (although not waterproof).Contrary to one other review, the thermometer is very accurate...they said theirs read the temp of boiling water at 96°-97°C...which will be accurate depending on where they live...water doesn’t always boil at 100°C (in fact, in VERY few cities does it boil at 100° as most cities are above sea-level).
