There exist 7 volumes of Louis L'Amour short stories and I boughtall of them from Amazon. But the 4th Volume of adventure storieswas a real nice surprise. It was not western. Instead, this volumeencompasses exotic islands and other countries, particularly beforeand during the early beginnings of WWII. The shorts using Ponga JimMayo are my favorites. The reader will appreciate the world wideexposures that Louis lived while he worked on cargo ships departingSan Pedro, California. The last pages of volume 4 detail the countrieshe visited and the folks he worked with. Well worth owning this book.If you like the Indiana Jones type plots, these short stories fitthe same periods.

L'Amour is the greatest American Western writer and these stories are like his other entertaining, authentic and informative works. His prose is engaging and the stories are full of lively detail. No writers tricks here, the story is enough to keep you engaged.

I'm a big fan of adventure stories. I've been wanting to have some of Louis L'Amour's adventure stories, I'm a big fan of his westerns, some of the best I've ever read or watched on film, and his advenyure stories are not behind that.

Perfect gift for my husbands father. This was one he hadn’t read ! Bravo !

Outstanding collection,showing a different side of LL's talent,with some true insights into people that are exemplified,I think, in the depression era tales,but there are many other instances,and I was,to some extent,reminded of the Robert E Howard's writings,but a far superior style and understanding.I was also reminded of Hemingway's Nick Adams stories,Steinbeck,and most surprisingly,Somerset Maugham.Some excellent observations on humanity,in all its various guises.Recommended without any reservations at all.
