Even with laying on like, 10 layers of blankets, my back muscles still suffered a lot. This mat can squish into my sleeping space easier than a mattress, and it offers just the right amount of comfort that I don't suffer any back pain anymore. Granted, I also layered it with many blankets, so I dont know how comfortable it is by itself.
