Last Flag Flying: A Novel

Last Flag Flying was not a big hit at the movies but I liked it very much... Maybe because I am old. The book and the movie aren't exactly the same (no spoilers). The book is more political. It will make you want to read more from this author

Three sad Navy Vietnam Veterans trying to right a wrong that happened to one of their sons. Meadows son joined the Marines to do the right thing for his country. What happened he was killed by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is the story of his dad and his two friends bringing him home to be buried.It's a story that at times will make you mad, will make you smile, and you will hope that Meadows, Mule and Billy find a purpose.

I read this book over five days, I could not put it down. It is an absolutely perfect sequel with trademark Ponicsan crackling dialogue and a send up of war that equals Catch 22. Billy Bad-Ass, Mule and Meadows reunite with perfection and humanity and the conclusion is very satisfying. This will join The Last Detail proudly on my bookshelf. Glad to see they are making a movie, but it won't be as good as the book. Well done!

This is a story not of friends but brethren, brought together under unusual circumstances & reunited because of something to often occurring in today’s world. A wonderful telling of the brotherly love between these three men. Read this book. See the movie when it’s available. I’m sure you will enjoy.NickTheMoose

It did not have a stand

I found the conversational formatting to be a little difficult to follow at times but it did feel like real people talking. I did enjoy learning about the characters as it progressed.

If you know there is no need for explanation if you don't know it can't be explained. Great book fair winds and following seas.

I loved this book. It was funny, sad and terrific.

I saw the movie first, which I enjoyed. Then read the Last Detail( recommended) and finally read this one. Excellent. The movie has the books' tone, but the story is made more Hollywood (but it works all the same). It's a fast read but a good one. I highly recommend it. PS, when reading it, I pictured the actors from the movie, which means they cast it well I suppose.

A sad but beautiful story. Yeah they can take everything ! But not our Spirit yet! I thoroughly enjoyed thus book. I would highly recommend it.

Excellent read.

Good read, old friends helping one another in another place and time in there lives. As in the past brought together again by circumstance.

I hope the movie is as half as good as the book. Funny, sad, everything in between. Read it and shed a tear for the dead Lest we forget..
