Crochet Granny Squares

great gift for any crocheter, 20 granny square patterns, basic techniques. A plus was the spiral binding for easy viewing of the instructions. One thing to note, I did not see a hook size for crocheting the squares anywhere in the instructions, unless I overlooked it.

This is a great book for beginners, covering basic stitches, handling rows, and working in the round. The patterns range from very basic to quite challenging squares. African Flower and Hexagons are also included. I'm going to make a throw with all my practice squares! (Sorry I'm not good with digital camaras)

Easy to understand

While all the patterns are for squares, they are not all true granny squares as others have said, but rather how to's for various stitches. With that being said, I still think it has a lot of great info, especially for beginners. I like the spiral binding making it easy for the book to lay flat. I took away one star because of the book containing stitch instructions as much as granny square instructions. I bought another book by the same author that was geared for beginners and some of the stitches were duplicates of the other book. Also, the spiral binding was a bit too small and some of the pages were hard to turn. Overall a good value for the information given.

Just learning to crochet, took a class and then got this book. Very helpful and easy to follow along. If you are just starting out and have the basics down this book is perfect for you to keep going.

I am enjoying this book. I've had it for three days and have successfully created five of the many granny squares. I'm looking forward in using all of the patterns in Afghans and spreads, or anything my imagination can think of. Since I haven't crocheted since I was around 19 years old and I'm now in my seventies I would say I'm a beginner and the directions and tips almost make me feel like a pro.

I hesitated on a 2-3 star. It's a good book for beginners but I was frustrated that one of the first patterns I did was wrong. The traditional granny square says repeat 2x when it should be 3x. It says it in the whole pattern. Ended up having to call my mother with 40+years of experience to tell me I wasn't crazy about it being wrong! Also the book came with a horrible smell and I had to let it air out outside to smell better. I thought it was a one off but did see where others had the same issue.
