It's black, it stretches, it does not smell, it works just like a phone cord should. Initially hard to believe that anything that can stretch to 12 feet can come in such a small package. I have not tested to see if the cord really does extend to 12 feet but my impression is that it would. I'm not sure what they are referring to when they say "heavy duty" in the description. Not really as the coiled length is much much shorter. The length is more like the standard length of a handset cord, anything shorter will definitely be too short for a regular desk. I've been using it on my desk phone for a few days and it is so much better than the little cord that came with the phone. I've stretched it across to about six feet without it moving the base set. It's about 2 feet in length fully retracked but is not stiff so curls up next to phone nicely. I would recommend this for anyone wanting a bit more cord for sitting mobility.
