Works nicely
We've had it hanging on the ceiling above our main work table in our cabinet shop for the past month. Fit and finish is nice. Recoil works...so far, cord end works, so far. The general appearance gives me hope this will last for a while. Our goal is to simply have overhead power so the cords don't come over the edge of the table causing folks to trip on cords and drag $600 routers to their untimely death. This does the trick, though it could do the same job with a 10' cord. We need enough retraction to pull the cord up out of the way when not needed and then back down close to the table when in use. I'd buy it again and with even greater joy if it was shorter.

Solid with the usual reel issue
This is a nice, sturdy reel. The installation on my garage ceiling was simple and it works great there, giving me power in the middle for things like vacuuming out cars or running power tools. As expected, the retraction of the cord is mediocre, meaning that I have to slowly help the cord go back in, back it out a bit when it jams up, and then keep going. Most reels of this sort seem to have this same problem, so it wasn't a surprise. In any event, I'd still recommend this reel.

As with all DIY purchases on Amazon, use your own screws and you will be fine
I have been installing lots of convenience items like this into our new Beazer production home. Initially, I was very upset that there was only one wall outlet in our entire garage when they put something like 2 extra outlets in every bedroom! These feelings were mitigated by a nice extra long power strip and the discovery of this product on Amazon.I looked at several of these and found this to be the least obtrusive looking. (I was about to get the fake diamond plate one made by Designer's Edge with the thought that it would match my fake diamond plate Gladiator wall cabinets, but I had a bit of a crisis buying "designer" items for my testosterone-laden garage.) I own some Bayco extension cord reels which gave me a little bit of confidence in the brand. The triple tap and pilot light are very nice features to have, and the cord unwinds and retracts smoothly.I agree with another reviewer that this bolt-on "stirrup" mount is better than having a cord reel that dangles and swings off an eye-bolt. That being said, you can purchase very rugged eye-bolts and carabineers from Home Depot. Unfortunately, the same cliché regarding all of the Made in China DIY stuff I buy these days also applies to this product: the included screws don't inspire much confidence. They are about 1-5/8" long wood screws made of some soft alloy, probably #10s at best. The heads aren't much bigger than the shaft! Unfortunately the holes in the metal bracket are not very big, but even using 2" #8 square drive stainless deck screws gave me some peace of mind that the whole thing will not fall if I tug too hard. I was ready to drill out bigger holes into the bracket and use Timberlok self-tapping lag bolts but the deck screws got very good bite into the stud. (I also wasn't sure if the metal bracket could take it!)Overall, I'm pleased, we will see how long it lasts.

Great retractable extension cord
We have an outdoor patio with a canopy, and an outdoor dining table with chairs beneath it. When the weather is nice, we'll work at the table, but needed a convenient power source for our laptops. We now have this reel suspended in the canopy, and connected to a GFI plug via a heavy-duty extension cord that is zip-tied and routed along the frame of the canopy. When we want to use our laptops, we simply pull down the three-outlet plug, and when we're through we retract it back up. This means we don't have an extension cord running along the ground or laying across the table, and the only time it's visible is when we need it.The unit itself is metal and heavy duty. The mounting bracket is designed to be screwed into a solid mounting point, like a beam, and then the reel attaches to the mounting bracket by virtue of a retaining pin. That means in its normal configuration this unit will be solidly mounted, not dangling/swinging like some of the others that hang from a hook. There's also a red power indicator LED on the plug end, so you know if the unit has power. And to top it all off, the entire system is black, meaning that we don't have a safety-orange cord creating a visual distraction on our patio.Put it all together, and this is a great solution for us, and would be an excellent addition to a workshop or garage as well, given its heavy-duty construction, mounting bracket system, power LED, and triple-outlet plugs.

Will not retract all the way!
Ok, I like the LED light on the end of the plug. The three way plug has proven to be more of a hindrance than a help but not really a problem. The cord is flexible. BUT, and this is a big but, it will not retract all the way. I have a 10 ft ceiling in the garage and it retracts all but the last 4 or 5 ft. At that point, if I wiggle it or run it in and out several times, I can usually get it so that only 2 or 3 ft are hanging out but that's it. My wife hates it worse than I do and has no patience for it. I thought it might loosen up after it was used for a while or when the weather got warm. Neither has helped. What's the point of a retractable reel if it won't retract? I want my money back.

Great cord. Recoil is a little weak.
The cord is long and sturdy. It carries current well and seems safe. The recoil on base is a little weak and doesn't wrap all the way back in.

Nothing fancy, but for the price it works great.
Considering the price, this product works well in the limited application of my garage. Ive oned this for a month and used it 20 or so times. Mounted to the ceiling the cord hangs 28.5". The cord that you plug in is only 2' long so unless you already have an outlet nearby you'll have to run an extension or install a new one (which is what I did). It locks just fine and retracts alright though it may need some help toward the end. Outlets hold a standard plug snugly. I'm giving five stars considering the price. I wouldn't recommend this for a shop that sees heavy use but for my garage and my projects I have no complaints.

Pretty good... but...
The build quality is great, it looks great, its heavy cord with 3 prongs and works excellent... BUT... It wont even hold the weight of my heatgun on the recoil - it pulls out about 5ft. Now one would think that a triple plug outlet should be built to hang at least one light tool from... I will be replacing it with the more expensive one because I need to hang the heatgun off it. Other than that this is a good cord reel and for your home garage where you just want a pulldown cord not a pulldown tool readily available. I will still give it 5 stars because its great, it just doesnt have a strong recoil like I need.

Easy to install!
Really easy to put in place. Like 5 minutes and it was done …. Love the look but the wire get stuck a little at the end when you what to reel it back in. But other than that is serves its purpose !

Won't Reliably Retract the Cord
I have been quite disappointed by this unit because it doesn't retract the cord well at all. Most frustrating is when I pull more cord to get it to retract and end up with a tangled pile of cord on my garage floor....the very thing I wanted to avoid by buying this.
