I am a novice photographer but need camera with good zoom for African trip. P600 or P610?

The P600 is last year's model and the P610 is the latest. I waited for the P610 because it has a digital viewfinder, an updated software platform and a more sensitive CMOS element. They both have the outrageous 60X zoom and WIFI, etc. You can save about $100.00 by buying the P600 but I like my P610 a lot so I feel its still a good bargain thru Amazon. If you want drop dead zoom capabilities, get the Nikon P900 with over 80X zoom for another $100. It wasn't available when I was shopping but it is now.

Does the p610 have the snap-back feature that the p900 has?

I do not know about the p900, but I love my p610..

Is the video in this camera a set time limit? i have the nikon coolpix l830 with 34x and love it. any more reasons to get this one?

If you record at same speed as the action is occurring, then the only limit is the size/capacity of your SD memory card. If you record in slow motion or speeded up formats, namely at 1/4, 1/2, or 2x normal speed, then there are limits to the recording length. 1/4 speed slow motion max. recording length is 7 min. 15 sec. 1/2 speed slow motion max. length is 14 min. 30 sec. If you record at 2X the normal speed, the max recording length is 29 minutes, which by the way, plays back in 14 min. 30 seconds. If you are optical zoom lens junkie, you will love the 60X optical zoom. I photograph birds and dragonflies, so the 1440 mm equivalent lens length represented by the 60X optical zoom is fantastic for those subjects.
