It's a Good Choice. Saves you time-money-and reduces stress.
The Garmin GTM 60 HD Digital Traffic Receiver (HD DTR) has proven to be a good investment. Recently we went on a 3,000 (+) mile business trip. About half way through our trip we ordered and received the HD Traffic Receiver to replace our original chord that came with our Garmin. The original chord is good, no problems and does its job. However, with the HD DTR, one step was saved. We no longer had to tap into our smart phone app "Garmin Smart Phone Link" to get ongoing traffic reports in various areas where this service was available. The last thing you DONOT want to do is find yourself in the midst of 8:00 am traffic in a new city asking your wife to assist you in setting up your app on the phone because you forgot to do so before you started your day's trip.. This is especially true when you can be easily re-routed due to "Live Traffic" situations. Not knowing about an upcoming "Live Traffic" could well mean sitting in your car for many minutes not moving at all or traveling at a very frustrationing pace. On our trip we had been re-routed several times and been notified of live traffic situations at least 30 or more times. Not only did these notices lessen our stress level, it further provided us ample time (sometimes as much as 60 miles away) to be prepared for a route change or a slower traffic pattern. We also from time to time were given notices of options to save 4 min or even 12 min. driving time by taking alternative routes. All this without the need to use the smart app. I would encourage Garmin to give a $5 to $10 rebate if customers would purchase this item at the same time they purchase their Garmin GPS. If given that option in the first place with a discount, I probably would have also purchased it at the same time--thus saving both time and money.

Traffic information w/o monthly fees
This power adapter / traffic information device works great with my Garming Drivesmart 65; no fees to pay to obtain traffic information; driving around in San Diego it gives me details about traffic on my route and integrates it seemlessly with the GPS because it gives me options to drive around traffic jams or gives options to improve time spent to get to the set destination. Thou price at first seems to be steep, it pays off rather quickly.

Expensive, but saves the need to have a power and data-hog app on my phone
First off, I purchased a DriveSmart 70 with lifetime maps and traffic. What was not clear initially was that the traffic was dependent on having either a smart phone with Garmin's Smartphone Link or by purchasing one of these GTM 60 HD Digital Traffic Receivers. After trying the Smartphone Link and finding that it refuses to shut down when not connected to the GPS and continues to run, using both data and battery, I uninstalled it (tried it twice and uninstalled it both times) and purchased this traffic receiver instead. I'm not on an unlimited data plan, so the upside to this device is that it will save me money in the long run. However, the payback time for it will be several years. Hopefully, the devices will still be operational and supported by that time. It is easy to use. Plug it in and place it so that the little inline antenna is lying on the dash and not covered. It replaces the 12V power cord and communicates through the USB connection that also powers the GPS. It picked up that I had the traffic already,, so I did not have to set it up like I would have if I had owned one of the older units without traffic buiilt in. As for operation, it takes several minutes to load traffic data. I have not compared this slow acquisition with the app to see if that was also slow. I also have not had it long enough to evaluate the accuracy of the traffic information. I will use it more and if warranted, will update my rating.

Great add on for Nuvi 2555LM
Bought this for my Garmin Nuvi 2555LM after some jerk broke into our car while we were at the Oregon Zoo and stole everything that looked electronic, which wasn't much, but included a zip lock bag full of our car chargers. Argh! Luckily, we did not have the GPS with us that day. Since I needed to buy a new charging cable anyway, I decided to get this one which would add lifetime traffic to an already great GPS. It works very well from Salem to Portland and in between. There was a slowdown on highway 217 last week when I was passing through and it showed up on the map VERY accurately. It was a minor delay (2 minutes), so it did not try to route us around it. I was still impressed. We have not taken it on a road trip yet, but I'm confident that it will work well anyplace that there is a good FM signal. The best part is that there are no ads, unlike the cable that would have come with the more expensive 2555LMT that I had been looking at. YAY!

OEM part. Fits as intended. I realised later that you don't need to register this to work. I works right out of the box. Tried for hours to register it on Garmin site but there was no way to do it and in the end was unnecessary. It does have the radio receiver in the cable in case your garmin does not have the built in receiver. My garmin (2795) has the built in receiver so when attached to the gtm60 it shows up in the settings menu under traffic providers as two providers. Not sure how the HD thing works but it is recognised by the gps. To confound the application I have the garmin tied into their smart link app on Android. The smart link app overrides the HD maps functionality I found. I'll use ithe gtm 60 on another compatible gps that doesn't have a built in receiver and see how it works there. Canada is starting to go with HD commercial radio so not sure if the GPS cable is fully supported in the area I live. The cable is more supple that the oem cable meaning it doesn't stiffen in cold weather like the original.

I bought a gps as I drive almost an hour to and from work. The traffic option is the whole reason I got it. After my car was broken into for the second time and they took the charging cord my gps was useless. I was so happy to find this product as the traffic is in the cord and works just like my original. It also charges my gps flawlessly. Very happy I found this.

Worked perfectly, and no monthly subscriptions. Plugged it in to my compatible Garmin GPS, turned on the traffic function in the menu and voila! I now have automatically updated weather & traffic. Works well around the city, traffic updates come on automatically. Weather function is a bonus, my area has changeable weather. Downsides? Expensive Garmin OEM item, but it's worth it if you use your GPS a lot when driving.

It works perfectly so far. The only problem is when there is a traffic jam. I it will ask you to use the alternative route, but you cannot click the confirm button on the screen..
