Learning QGIS - Second Edition

(Mostly) Easy to Follow
Minus a few snags, the book was very easy to follow. Ms. Graser goes over all of the basics: geoprocessing, creating/editing features, joining tables, heat maps, etc. QGIS is a bit different than ArcGIS (and gives ESRI a run for their money!) and so I found it helpful that she gave suggestions on laying out the toolbars and explained the icons. There were a few times when the input in the directions didn't match what I ultimately needed to enter into QGIS. I also got stuck for a while on the hexagonal heatmap section because I didn't have MMQGIS installed and didn't understand how plug-ins worked (at the time). More info about installing plug-ins and a list of recommended plug-ins would have helpful.

Already outdated
The book provides several useful examples for getting started in QGIS, however several of the examples are broken. The current version of QGIS looks fairly different from the examples, making the examples a little difficult to follow. In at least two cases, functionality has been altered to the point that you cannot complete examples as directed. I would suggest using online resources rather than relying on this text, which is already a bit outdated.

A manual of QGIS, not good, but acceptable
Readers should have basic knowledge of GIS. The book does cover common functions of QGIS, but it doesn't give much explanation in-depth. Besides, the book doesn't say quite clearly how to activate or call some of the operations it mentioned. So readers need to do some search and find the commands themselves.
