This variety produces elegant light purple flowers on tall stems, making it a perfect addition to any garden, whether in beds, borders, or pots. ## Description This listing is for Hosta 'Plantain Lily' 'Mediovariegata undulata' Bare Root Plants x 3. PLANTING Prepare the site for planting by digging planting holes for each plant about a foot deep and wide. Then fill in the hole with a good peat based compost and place the bare root covering all roots with tips showing above surface. You will need to keep the compost reliably damp for the first year and then keep an eye on it in subsequent years in hot dry spells. Once established they will tolerate almost any well drained soil and will reach maturity after 5 years. Take precautions against slugs and snails during the first few years . There are many nature friendly ways to do this without the use of pellets which can be harmful to wildlife for example placing sharp grit around the Hosta. This should be done at planting and renewed every spring when you should also put a layer of granular fertiliser such as growmore of pelleted chicken manure before the leaf emerge. Never allow the fertiliser to sit on the leaf .
