The foam will dampen some of the sound but there still may be some going through. For example, the 2 inch panels have a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.65 overall. This means approx 65% of the sound will be absorbed by the panel and the other 35% will pass through or be reflected back. Keep in mind that this is for 100% coverage. The thicker panels have a higher NRC than thinner panels. For sound coming through a wall a good way to block the noise is to add another layer of drywall with green glue in between. The added mass of more sheetrock combined with the noise blocking properties of green glue (available on amazon) will block the sound much better than acoustic foam panels. This is the simplest fix that wouldn't require structural modification to the wall frame. I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions. How are these applied?** A: These will damage the ceiling if you use a permanent adhesive and mount them directly to the ceiling. A technique for minimum damage is to mount the acoustic foam to a piece of plywood, thick cardboard, coroplast, or white boards with permanent adhesive (ex: 3m general purpose 45 spray adhesive, double sided gorilla tape). Then, use something like 3M command strips, tacks, or t shaped push pins to mount the constructed panel to the ceiling. This not only saves your ceiling but it also gives you the freedom to move the panels around for sound testing or take them with you if you move. **Q: what material is used for this foam ? Is it polyurethane or polyester?** A: The material is open cell polyurethane foam specially formulated for sound absorption and anti fading. If you have any other questions please let us know. I have them over each speaker and over the actual listening seats. Have even used them for first reflection points as well. Actually white in color not ivory as in some of the reviews for other items that are similar and that alone makes it look less intrusive. Easily hung with 9 small pieces of double sided tape along edges and one in center. Just enough to be moveable if not as straight as you would like or to relocate. If I need additional I will come back for sure. ### ⭐⭐⭐ WAY TOO EXPENSIVE *by R***  on November 11, 2020* I wish I had other choices for WHITE acoustic tiles on Amazon because these were crazy expensive to complete ONLY 1/4 of the project I had in mind. DARKER COLORS are cheaper and plentiful from other vendors but not White... It does not have any adhesion and i have to use a a lot of cement glue from home depot.
