Basic surge protection without an inflated price
This SPD, surge protective device, has proper ratings to mitigate common surges appearing at the electrical service entrance. You can pay more for lower rated devices on the market, or you can pay much more for marginally better rated SPDs; but, if the surge can be suppressed, this one will do all that can be expected—no SPD will assuredly divert a direct lightning strike! SPDs are now recommended in the National Electrical Code to protect service entrances. So, following that lead and having one installed at your home or business is prudent. This Intermatic SPD will fulfill the prescription: I have on on my service entrance.

Cheaper than replacing your electronics
Living in the South, we have a lot of electrical storms during Spring and Summer. After one very close and very violent one, we noticed that our pool equipment was not functioning as it should. Called our pool equipment warranty and they came out to look at it. The electrical board and the pump appeared to suffer electrical damage. We did not have a strike directly on our property, or anywhere nearby that we could determine, but agreed that it appeared to be lightning induced damage. Although the company replaced the equipment, they recommended that I purchase one of these. I did not even know they existed. The Pro'sThis is small and easy to connect. (you probably want to have an electrician do this)It has a glowing green LED that can easily be seen at night from far away to let you know ifs workingIt will protect our very expensive equipment from damage for a low costInstructions were easy to follow, very few tools needed for installThe NegativesNone so far. We have had several close lightning storms and no damageHighly recommended for protection. Its not inexpensive, but much cheaper and convenient than replacing electronics due to lightning damage.

Earlier model saved my house
I'm laughing at the amazon site that asked me to rate the comfort of this surge protector.I had an earlier model attached to my breaker box for 20 years. Finally got a really good surge and it sacrificed itself to save my electronics. So I bought this one to replace the old one. It's easy enough to install for a person comfortable messing around inside a breaker box. But it should not be attempted by someone who is unfamiliar with electricity.

Easy installation & (I hope!) adequate Protection
Anecdotal experience is the only 'real' way to rate the protection afforded by this device. In a previous home, I got tired of loosing light bulbs when storms passed through my area. We were lucky: never lost any high-end electronics! After installing the predecessor product in our home: Volia! No more blown light bulbs! After moving to our new home, I immediately ordered and installed this Whole House Surge Protector. It sits quietly to the right of our breaker panel and the green LED tells me it is operational. Time will tell, but if past experience is an indicator, I have nothing to worry about!Recommended!

Extra peace of mind
Yes, I have most of my electronics individually protected through the surge suppressors on the extension cords, but really...there's so much electronics in today's household that could benefit from protection that this just makes a lot of sense.Spring summer and winter storms are accompanied by lightening and we're at the end of a rural power grid or should I say storm induced power spike antenna...Needed one desperatley when we lived in Texas...finally grew up and got one now that we live in Tennessee and it will be the first thing we install in any future home...

Perfect for protecting my home
Perfect for protecting my home, which gets frequent near lightening strikes here in Central Florida. Have an electrician install this! Incorrect installation is dangerous.

Great protection for whole house
This is a great addition to any home. Installs very easily (must follow instructions carefully, as it goes into Circuit Breaker), and is protecting my whole house.

Just the LED burned out after a year
I installed one of these a year ago. After a year the LED status light went out indicating it was no longer protecting. I bought a new one and installed it. I'm an electrical engineer, so out of curiosity, I opened it up and checked the circuit. Both the MOVAR's (surge suppressors) were still okay. So, I checked the LED itself and discovered, just the indicator LED had burned out. So, I replaced the 2 cent LED (which I have hundreds of) and it's fine now. So, now I have a spare for when the MOVAR's actually stop working.
