I wanted something to block the blue light from my computer and phone screens in the evenings, and possibly to use as lamp shades. The reason is that blue light inhibits melatonin production, which is needed for proper sleep. I don't want to wear amber-colored glasses. But the fact that amber glasses are used for this purpose inspired me to look for a way to block the blue light at its source rather than at the end of my nose.I got 3 shades of amber filter because I didn't know what I was doing or how dark the filter needed to be.I have no idea whether I am accomplishing the goal of preventing blue light from reaching my eyes. This purchase and review were inspired by science, but have no scientific value themselves.However, I do know that my eyes are grateful.I cut the darkest sheet (021 Gold Amber) into strips and taped the strips over each of the blinding LED lights in my new Whirlpool refrigerator and freezer. Opening the door during the day was a bit jolting because the lights are so bright and completely un-shaded (the bulbs are aimed directly at the window-shopper's eyes). Opening the door in the evening when lights are low, or in the dark when bedtime snacks are required, was downright painful. With the filters installed between my eyes and the LED's, I can now open the fridge without having a row of four spots floating before my eyes for five minutes after retrieving a midnight snack.
