Versatile and capable
I've been using this cable for a few months now on my New 3DS. Charge cables like this that tend to be sold for cheap are often liable to also be cheaply made or have defects of some kind, or perhaps not perform that well. In this case, this usb cable works great. We live in a world now where usb ports are all over the place, and if you're looking to stuff a 3DS and some kind of charge cable into your pocket, you're not going to want to want to pocket the (comparatively) large power adapter for wall outlets that are purchased from Nintendo. This cord has a low profile since it doesn't have any kind of adapter attached to it, and since it's usb, and because usb is so wide-spread, you're bound to be able to find a computer, cell phone charger, or a portable battery that you can draw a charge off of if you need it. Depending on what you plug it into, your charge time may vary, but I've gotten pretty good results from my own cell phone charger, and usually I'll just plug it into my PC for convenience when I know I won't be using it for a while. It's worth noting that Nintendo seems to have adopted a policy of not including chargers with their 3DS units, and tasking you with purchasing your own separately. This is annoying, but I've been using this cable daily for months and haven't run into any issues. I'd consider it a viable replacement for your 3DS charger.

Provides flexible charging options for Nintendo DSi, XL and 3DS
Just to make it perfectly clear: This product ( USB Power Charge Cable Adapter for Nintendo NDSi ) cannot be used to transfer data to or from your computer. It is for charging your DSi from an USB port only. It also works with the newer Nintendo XL and 3DS, but not for the original DS and DS Lite (because older models have a differently shaped charging port). The power cable is about 46 inches (117 cm) long. I measured the current consumption to be around 350mA during charging of my XL. All computer or laptop USB 2.0 ports are rated for 500mA, so there should be no problems with loading. But you should not plug it into an unpowered USB hub (because the 500mA is shared by multiple devices), nor should you try it in an older USB 1.1 port. There are several other ways to recharge your Nintendo through this power cable, namely: 1. Using a generic AC-powered USB adapter. It is best to pick one that works from universal voltage of 100-240V AC, so that you can use it while traveling (Note that the original Nintendo AC adapter only works from 110V AC) 2. Using a battery-powered USB supply (such as the one from UltraLast Green 2AA/AAA/USB On-the-Go Charger ). This allows you to recharge while taking a very long plane ride, for example. 3. Using a 12V-to-5V USB adapter. This allows you to recharge from your car battery, which is handy during long driving trips. Some newer cars already have USB ports for iPod and MP3 players, so in that case you don't even need an adapter. In summary: This power cable is a very inexpensive accessory, but it gives me multiple options to recharge my Nintendo DSi XL. So for that I'm completely satisfied.

Really like having a N3DS usb charger
Really like having a N3DS usb charger. Got this for my "new" 3DS since it didn't come with its own charger...and I didn't sell my original 3DS. No issues, plugs into an USB adapter/outlet or directly to the PC. Charges flawlessly. Also, haven't had any issues letting it charge while playing either....except if you plug it into a cradle charger(for the original 3ds) and try to game with the cradle on. But that's a bit uncomfortable and not sure if any would want to let it sit in the cradle AND play it. I tried doing this by accident somewhat. Left my original 3ds in the cardle and opened the screen. The red light started to slowly blink. Once you take plug the charger directly to the handheld instead of the cradle, the blinking stops. Thought I'd mention this. Not an issue for me personally. UPDATE: It's been about a year since I've bought it, and I've noticed the protective black plastic around the wires are coming apart at the top and bottom of the charger. Not the worse that could happen as it still works, but knocking a star off due to this issue as I'm worried it may not last another year or so. Also, I don't twirl the wire like some like to do with their electronics, so not exactly sure how it could be coming apart except from normal use(plug the plug in and out).

USB Charging Provides More Useful Ways to Charge
This USB charging cable for the Nintendo DSi and 3DS lines does exactly what it says on the tin: allow the DSi or 3DS to charge via USB. The official charger has very similar values to standard USB electrical specifications, so swapping in this USB charging cable works in place of the original. Be sure to use a source that provides 0.9 A or more of current for good measure. As for connecting this cable, it works well with computers and other components that deal specifically with charging, such as USB chargers or batteries. Additionally, the DSi or 3DS cannot charge when the system is in use with this cable, so it will need to be turned off or in sleep mode. When you charge and play at the same time, it attempts to charge but fails to do so. Barring the need to charge when turned off or in sleep mode, the USB charging cable allows more sources to charge from using the commonly available USB ports.

It does charge my 3ds...
But, I'm not entirely sure about this product. After using this, my OEM charger stopped working. I don't know if this caused it or not but this still charged my 3ds. Now, it's possible that I used the wrong transformer, or it's possible that my OEM charger (refurb) was bad. But this product DID do what it said it would, and this isn't just a cable that you have lying around *cough* thanks nintendo *cough* So if you're going to buy it just be careful that you get the voltage and amps right, just in case.

Great charging cable for travel
Rather than buy a world charger for my 3DS XL and cram yet another wall wart into my overstuffed laptop case, I purchased this cable for use overseas. The Nintendo end fits snugly in my 3DS XL with no play in the jack or flickering charge lights. Other reviews have mentioned loose connections but I seem to have gotten a quality cable. I can use the handheld while is charges with no issues. I've charged my 3DS XL from both my laptop (Macbook Air) and the little white cube charger that came with my iPhone 5S. Both worked great. The USB ports on most smartphone chargers should work perfectly. The only USB port that didn't seem to work well was the one built into the seat in front of me on my flight. It would charge for a moment, then kind of putter out. Some PCs might complain of excessive current draw too. This is all to be expected and not really the fault of the cable. The USB spec limits the current draw of devices to 500mA while the 3DS XL can pull 900mA or sometimes more. Some laptops and wall chargers will tolerate this, others will cut you off. If you encounter a port that keeps cutting you off, you might have more luck if you sleep your handheld or even turn it all the way off. Anyway, for a couple of bucks, I have a really lightweight, compact charging cable for my 3DS that works with most USB ports. I highly recommend it.

You're taking a risk and I can't recommend it
I used this product to connect my Nintendo 3DS XL to several different USB ports, some on my computer and some with AC adapters. None of them lit up the charging light on my system at all and it never appeared to be charging. After discharging the battery, I hooked it up again just to see if it was still charging despite this. To my shock, I came back a few minutes later and the system's battery was hot to the touch, much hotter than it gets with the official Nintendo AC charger. I immediately disconnected it, fearing that the battery may catch on fire or otherwise damage the system. I did some tests and it appears that the charger was outputting 1200 milliamps, 300 mA more than the Nintendo AC charger is rated for and about 600 mA higher than it actually output. I believe this was the source of the issue and though I'm far from an expert on electronics, I can easily see this going wrong. I'm not going to use this $5 charger and risk destroying my much more expensive 3DS or, worse, catching fire. A lot of the reviews on here say that it works perfectly. You also see some that says that it works, but very slowly. Others are like me, in which is doesn't seem to work at all. I believe this product is very low quality and while you may get lucky and receive a properly-working model, there's a very good chance you won't. I don't know if any of the sellers allow for returns, but mine does not. So if you want to take the risk and get this, either make sure your order is eligible for returns or be aware that there's a good chance you'll be throwing $5 in the garbage.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do
I got this since I already have a portable USB battery charger. This is significantly smaller than the original power brick, making this ultra-portable. I am a college student and I carry my laptop with me most of the time, so it's nice to just plug it into a free USB port if I need to. This is wonderful to have. Please note that this cable is not a data transfer cable. This is a power cable. Plug it into a laptop, computer, or tablet, and it will just charge the device. It will not even be recognized by the operating system. If you want to transfer data, just get an SD card adapter (most laptops these days have one built in). Long story short, if you don't like the large wall charger that comes with the 3DS, you can't a get much smaller or lightweight charging option than this. Get yourself a nice USB portable battery and USB cables for all your portable devices, and you'll only have to carry a single power brick. Your back will thank you.

Every Nintendo 3DS Owner Needs This
I've tested this out with the Aukey 20000mAh Portable External Battery, and it performed as expected. Charged my New Nintendo 3DS with no problems. It's well worth it, and something Nintendo SHOULD be actually packaging together with their systems, or even sell them officially. Until then, this is a MUST buy, especially for travellers that go on long car trips. If you have any of the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS family of systems, you definitely want to pick this up.

Excelente cable

Great cable to keep your DS charged on the go!
A great handy cable to have on hand especially in the car while travelling and my son needs to charge his DS. We will definitely order a few more to have them in all vehicles as there is nothing worse on road trips then a dead DS :) I can fully recommend this charging cable . It fits great ( just like a Ninendo branded one) for a fraction of the cost and provides a steady charge. The DS also doesn't get too warm as we experienced it with other cables.

Ok cable
Cheaply made but nice to travel with less charger as it works with cellphone usb charger. Sometime it lose the connection to the 3Ds for no good reason. Maybe bad assembly of the cable.
