## Description

Product Description A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil. desertcart.com You think your childhood was rough? Check out the opening 20 minutes of Conan the Barbarian, a bone-cracking coming-of-age prologue that fully explains the "Barbarian" part of the name. The film gets off to a ripping start, including li'l Conan's lethal dispatching of a crowd of restless natives (it's not every lad that returns from camp with the decapitated heads of his enemies dangling from his shoulders) and a great deal of hoo-hah about the forging of swords. As the character grows into manhood, played by Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), the cascade of brutality continues: boiling oil, nose trauma, death by metal fingernails--you name it, the movie has it. The "origin story" plot is a workable way into the world of pulp writer Robert E. Howard's hero: Conan seeks vengeance for the death of his father (Ron Perlman) and pursues power-hungry Khalar Zym (Stephen Lang, enjoying the fruits of Avatar), who in turn seeks the final piece of a many-tailed magic mask, which will give him untold power. Rose McGowan is all spooky as Khalar's daughter (she's got the fingernails) and Rachel Nichols is an innocent slated to be sacrificed by the evildoers. Director Marcus Nispel rolls out the tech hardware for this relentless action picture, pumping up every sound with a digital whammy that might make your head feel it has been split in two by Conan's mighty sword (that is, if you didn't already feel that from the chaotic cutting--since the movie was originally released in uninspired 3-D, this visual unpleasantness was enhanced in theaters). The movie's not a complete bust, but it is a fairly punishing experience. As for Momoa, he's got the pectorals, and generally comes across as a likable sort. Of course, Conan isn't supposed to be a likable sort, so his casting will likely trigger an unexpected response in viewers familiar with the 1982 version of the character. You will miss Arnold Schwarzenegger. --Robert Horton

Review: I live, I love, I slay... I am content - I actually really liked this movie. I'm a long time fan of sword and sorcery books and movies and think this movie was one of the best in the genre. It was a very exciting movie with almost constant action, what more can you want from a Conan the Barbarian movie. It wasn't directly based on one of Robert E. Howard's stories but I think the Conan in this version was just as true to the Conan character as the Arnold Schwarzenegger version. I enjoyed every moment of this movie, this is exactly what a modern Fantasy movie should be. It was very exciting. This movie was better than Red Sonia and The Beastmaster part 2 put together. The fighting scenes were excellent and all of the battles scenes were top notch. I thought the setting of the movie was excellent, most of the movie was filmed in Bulgaria and made for beautiful and engrossing scenery which is very important in a Fantasy movie. The castles and villages were also very well done and ominous looking. I don't see why critics are being hard on Conan the Barbarian (2011). In the excellent stories Conan hardly talks he just goes around killing people with his sword and saving slave girls, that is exactly what Jason Momoa did in this movie and he was very convincing about it. If you want an emotional PC chick flick go see "The Help" (or rent it) if you are a real man (or a women who likes watching real men) watch Conan the Barbarian (2011)!
Review: Great movie! Great fight scenes! - I loved Jason Momoa's character from the Stargate Atlantis series, so I thought this woukld be a good movie for him, but for some reason I kept missing it at the theatre. I had it on my list of DVDs to purchase, but it never rose to the top of the list. Then.... I got hooked on the Disney series Kickin' It with Leo Howard. That young man is a fantastic Karate champion. For real. I think he's a two time world champion. Anyway, I found out that he played the younger Conan in this movie and did a fantastic job. So, the movie got put to the top of my list. Wow. It's worth the purchase price just to see Leo Howard at the beginning of the movie. Actually, I think they expanded the beginning of the movie because he did such a fantastic job. Talk about ability and drive. This young man has it. After they show Conan grown up and being played by Jason Momoa, it was still a good movie to watch. The back story of what happened when he was young drives him as a man. It makes for a great storyline. The costuming and special effects were excellent and did not disappoint. Overall I really enjoyed it, but being an admirer or the real life talents and skills of Leo Howard definitely has put this movie in my repeat watch favorite movie list.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I wasn't wowed when I first saw it...
*by H***E on January 18, 2020*

I remember seeing this in 2011 and I supposed I was expecting much more. Plus Jason Momoa, and Rachel Nichols were unknowns at the time. Noticed it in my Prime Movies list and said "Ooh something new" ... First watched the trailer...and said "Looks decent"... So started watching it, Cinematography was actually surprising. Definitely did not hold out on the $90 million budget. CGI was pretty remarkable for its time frame. This movie had all the bells, clicks, and whistles. Sword play could've had some improvement, maybe they should've made it look faster with a few camera tricks, not too fast. So that could be the fault of the director and the Editor. But to me overall, it was a good play, a good movie to watch, in fact, I watched it twice just to get more views before I issue my review ... I liked it, but I might be bias because my movie preferences are fantasy, horror, science fiction, action, adventure, and just a little bit of girl movie. This should've made more money when it was released if it wasn't for the bad reviews. Of course, during that time, people were expecting something more spectacular because of the other movies released at the time in 2011, i.e. Harry Potter Deathly Hallows, Transformers Dark Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean Strange Tides, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and so on... I could understand why it did not hit box office at that time because of those other block buster releases. However, regardless this movie fell short, and considered a Blockbuster Bomb. But it was a nice change in venue fr my viewing adventure. Definitely watchable for me. Gosh, it beats a lot of NEW movies released today that makes me wonder why those movies were made into movies to begin with. This one, you can enjoy.
