No the 1/2” PVC is 1/2” inside diameter you would need more like a 3/4” cap for the 1/2” PVC

I am looking for caps to fit iron pipe whose nominal OD is 0.84 inches. Is this size sufficient?

I doubt it highly, you are .09 inches larger than the caps. They are only 3/4" .75 inch

Will these stretch enough to fit a post that is 2 3/8”?
