I go to the local restaurant supply and get 50lb bag of C&H for 22$. Everyone is correct on the 4:1 ratio, but there is no need to boil all the water. You only need enough to disolve the sugar then fill the rest with cold water so you don't have to wait for it to cool. I fill 2 32 oz feeders at the same time. I use an 8 cup glass pyrex measuring cup put 2 cups of sugar water from the kettle to dissolve ( please don't microwave) fill the rest with cold and fill bottles. Easy system **Q: Is there a water moat to keep out ants?** A: you can also hang the feeder with a bit of fishing wire and the ants can't walk on the line. i did that with one of mine and no issues. **Q: Has anyone had any issues with leaks? I have 14 feeders and they all leak, mainly at the seams where the plastic is molded.** A: Sadly, I purchased several of these again 2023 year and they all leak. Really causing a mess. I hand wash, and also make sure they are snuggly secured correctly. They are leaking from base seam. At first I thought they were being blown about or got bumped but not the case. Now I have an ant problem from all the nectar that has leaked out. I fill only about a third of the way. Doesn’t matter if the sun hits it or not, I have one in shade, and it leaks as well. Won’t be buying again. **Q: Has anyone ever had problems with hummingbird feeders attracting roaches?** A: No, never roaches. I live in an apartment and have never had any issues with feeders and roaches in the 8 years I've had them. I did have ants get into a feeder once (not this feeder) and was able to fix it by putting Vaseline on the hanger.
