Product Description Walt Disney Pictures and James Cameron, the Academy Award(R)-winning director of TITANIC (1997), present the groundbreaking cinematic achievement GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS. Joined by his personal friend Bill Paxton (TITANIC) and a team of the world's foremost historical and marine experts, Cameron journeys back to the site of his greatest inspiration -- the legendary wreck of the TITANIC. During the voyage, you will explore inside the entire ship, deck by deck, room by room, encountering mysteries that have remained hidden for almost a century. Revolutionary underwater robots were designed and built solely for the purpose of allowing the explorers to peer deep into the remains of the once-great ship and bring those surreal and haunting images back to the surface world. Loaded with unseen footage, revealing interviews, and innovative DVD bonuses, this unprecedented motion picture event is a must-own companion for anyone who loves TITANIC. Set Contains: This DVD delivers two versions of James Cameron's entertaining documentary, neither of which is the IMAX 3-D version that played in theaters. The 61-minute version is the same as the IMAX edition, just without the 3-D effect; one must assume, however, that everyone will--and should--watch the new 92-minute version. It expands on several scenes and adds new scenes on the Titanic's captain, the animal life found at the wreck site, and life aboard the research vehicle Keldysh. The half-hour "Reflections from the Deep" is part making-of, part extra scenes with interesting segments on how mosaics were used for the brilliant underwater photography, the Keldysh's "Zodiac Cowboys," and the near-human connection to the remote cameras (named Elwood and Jake). You can choose one of six camera angles for the deft "The ROV Experience" that takes about 10 minutes of highlights from one dive. --Doug Thomas

Watched this during the downfall of the titanic submarine
Good documentary. This was interesting to watch during the submersible tragedy.

Brilliantly portrayed
This film was masterfully, and respectfully created. What an extraordinary journal to have for the future, and to see and still appreciate the elegantly crafted works on this ship. To pair it with how life may have been lived before the tragedy was a touching tribute. To pay homage to the silent and selfless ones who knew that they would not live was done so meaningfully. Thank you to all who were involved in this beautiful tribute to this incredible ship and to the people who lived and died on that fateful night.

Informative
Really cool to see how they travel through Titanic. Seeing things that hasn't been seen since it went down. They add pictures upon the images they see, so what you're seeing makes sense. Really worth watching if you like Titanic.

Somewhat flawed masterpiece
How I loved the awesome images from the quiet, sacred underwater grave of the Titanic. If only there had been MORE of them. I could have easily watched about two hours of just underwater footage. A mere 90 minutes, even on the extended version, simply wasn't enough and I found myself wanting more! The DVD is a must have for any Titanic buff, simply to have amazing footage from parts of the ship never filmed before. For those who've seen the DVD...I definitely DO think that they were looking right at the Renault down in the cargo hold! Some of this footage of the magnificent wreck site is very moving, and I never even had the chance to see it on an IMAX screen! The crew that went on this expedition was a top notch cross section of Titanic experts, but the Disney folks decided to place WAY too much emphasis on the ever annoying Bill Paxton. Old Bill has a few "wise" things to say (but I'll wager they were scripted). Mostly, Paxton just really gets on your nerves with his dopey comments. Also, I would have liked more of the ship and less of the technical stuff. Like I said, about two full hours of just Titanic footage (without Bill Paxton) would have been fine by me.I think I also need to comment on the special effects that overlayed "ghostly passengers" on the ship. Although I truly appreciate the technical skills of pulling off these visuals, I really had some decidely mixed feelings insofar as the results in the film. Maybe it would have had more of an impact if I had seen it on the big screen, but it really didn't do a whole lot for me. I can imagine the passengers on the ill fated ship, without James Cameron having to do it for me. A little bit melodramatic and contrived, I thought. Now, the overlays of the actual ship detail were cool and I did like those, because it really helped you to orient yourself, and get a clearer, immediate visual of what the great ship did look like, once upon a time.Definitely worth having for the amazing, once in a lifetime footage of the famous ship...but it could have been better.

My daughter was visiting and wanted to watch this with her.
We watched it just out of our mutual interest in the Titanic story. The main reason for watching was to learn something new and to see parts of the shop we had not seen in other specials.

So interesting
Loved this documentary. I would never do this, but it is fascinating to watch, especially after what happened to the Titan sub.

Real 3D, not simulated.
I have the Blue Ray 3D Movie Disc Set, Titanic. It was remarkable, so when I saw this on 3D Documentary and at a reasonable price, I had to have it. I was not disappointed at all. It says continues where the Movie Titanic let's off. That is putting it mildly in my opinion. Director, James Cameron did an excellent job with this production. The colors are brilliant, the 3D is real and protrude out the TV into your room. It gives you the experience of actually being present in and outside the Titanic, both then and now. James Cameron has made it even more realistic for you with special effects, such as morphing from the ruins back and forth to what it looked like inside and out before that terrible disaster. He also applied special effects by inserting passengers and crew ghost, through out the ship. You actually are emerged into the Titanic. I say again my family and I were very impressed. I recommend this Set to all.

Enjoyable, but didn't really meet my expectations.
I purchased "Ghosts of the Abyss" from Amazon Instant Video shortly after I watched my new, 4K restored Blu-ray version of the 1997 movie "Titanic." As I began viewing "Ghosts of the Abyss," I was hoping to see a documentary about the actual exploration of the "Titanic" shipwreck. That is "kinda-sorta" what I saw, although not in the way I hoped. "Ghosts of the Abyss" seemed to me to be more of a travelogue to the "Titanic" site hosted by movie actor Bill Paxton, who had a starring role in the film. To me, Paxton seemed more interested in showing off his personal experiences as a member of the dive team than in discussing the exploration of the "Titanic.""Ghosts of the Abyss" is nevertheless an enjoyable viewing experience. Just don't expect to glean a lot of scientific information from it. Recommended.

Documentario molto interessante
Per gli amanti del TITANIC come me, è un dvd che assolutamente non deve mancare nella proprio collezione di film/documentari. Documentario magistralmente eseguito da James Cameron. E' presente la lingua italiana. Consigliato!!

No Subtitles!!...and movie is more about James Cameron &Co than Titanic itself!
This review has two parts: FIRST The Blu Ray Region B for Australia produced by Viavision here in Australia, came with the cover stating that it has English subtitles for hearing impairing as well as French. Well don't have any. Contacted Viavision as per back cover and they sent me an email saying that the Blu ray doesnt have any subtitles but the DVD does. Well then don't put something in the Blu ray cover then! Viavision advised to get refund from Amazon which Amazon did, so thanks to the refunds department (By the way I use subtitles as I do have a bit of hearing loss on my right ear and also English is my second language and sometimes it is hard to understand when they talk softly or usetechnical words or colloquialisms).SECOND: This movie is A LOT about James Cameron and mates and crew going in their submersibles and battling anxiety rather than the Titanic itself. Some video is HD and is ok, but some taken by those underwater robots is like video taking by an outdated mobile phone (shocking quality actually). I read reviews of "Titanic at 100 Years 3D" by the History Channel, and so I bought it and WOW!! Even though it is only 45 minutes, it is 45 minutes of awesome HD 3d footage!! ....and has subtitles!!!
