Works for me, no English at all though.
I personally really like this book. It's pretty straight forward and simple, there's no English to help explain the grammar however. I like that in some ways but in other ways it's somewhat difficult. I haven't tried any of the other JLPT prep books and I've heard some good things about other ones so it probably depends on your learning style. I also purchased the bunpou to help prepare for the N2 which I took last year and passed. I highly doubt I would have passed without having it.

JLPT N1 doesn't stand a chance if you use this series
You have to be very serious about your studies to pass the exam, but this book and the other Kanzen Master books are really helpful. It gets into the kind of grammar you will most certainly find on the exam so you can choose the right answers.

I didn't realize it was a used book. But still brand new in my eyes! Fast shipping and satisfied!

Not much to say, other than: these are THE standard if you want to get through JLPT higher levels.

Nice resource, but I wish it had more practice problems.
If you plan to take the N1, chances are you can read everything in this book, even though it's all in Japanese. So yeah, decent book. Out of all the Shin Kanzen master books, I deemed this one to be the most important, since grammar isn't the easiest thing to just look up in a dictionary, unlike vocab and kanji. I wanted to see usages, nuances, and of course definitions. Each grammar entry has three example sentences, and a short, but relatively thorough note about nuances. Things like:- "isn't used for physical things"- "usually follows third-person speech"- "expresses the speaker's sense of surprise"That's the kind of stuff that's often left out in a dictionary, so I found those parts especially useful. Then there's a few practice problems, and I mean a FEW (at least compared to what I'm used to). I was definitely expecting more of a "test prep" than a "concise resource," but I definitely got the latter. Maybe I'm overestimating the JLPT and test takers don't NEED that many practice problems? And I can't help but shake the feeling that the majority of them are actually easier than the real test... (mostly because they come right after the section that teaches you the grammar form, so you immediately know what the question is about)I don't know about the other books, but I'm willing to bet you'll be a little surprised at how thin it is. As a resource for the N1, I wouldn't say it wasn't worth it, but I'm not sure if I got the right book. Guess I'll find out when I take it.
