I have an iKea desk in my bedroom with the very thin wood veneer that iKea uses. It looks nice but doesn't stand up well to wear. Since the surface of the desk is getting pockmarked, it's suitability for writing was beginning to suffer.I looked for a roomy but affordable writing pad to place on the desktop. I was puzzled by the term PU leather? It turns out that PU stands for Polyurathane. In short, this mat is plastic. It came in a good sized box but is actually rolled up in as a smallish tube about 2 inches in diameter. Once unrolled it has a distinct plastic smell although that goes away fairly quickly. The mat is thinner than expected, about 3/32 of a inch or 1.5 mm. Once set on my desk it lies fairly flat though with a very slight "waviness". I suspect that cautious use of a clothes iron on a low setting would make it fully flat. My computer mouse works fine on it's surface meaning I no longer need my original mouse pad.As for writing, it feels fine and none of my pens has any issues with it. My impression is that it will last at least several years. One thing is clear though, since it's plastic, it will not stand up to any abrasive activities. Hence my cautious rating on durability. Comfort wise, I notice the plastic mat makes my arms feel a little sticky. Of course, real leather can do that, too.It occurred to me later, after I had already ordered it, that I should have considered going to my local Home Depot store. They have inexpensive Tempered Hardboard sheets. This is the dark brown stuff used to make pegboard. Home Depot has 2' by 4' sheets for about $8. That is what I'll probably use next time.P.S. A quick update. I discovered that when using my favorite paper (thick and unusually smooth), that this pad has a bit too much "give". As a result, the writing tends to become embossed through the paper, rather like Braille. Just worth a mention if you favor such paper.

Great packaging good product. I got the clear and it is crystal clear which is exactly what I wanted because I wanted to be able to see the finish on the top of my desk. I had it laid flat in minutes using the hair dryer method. The only thing I was a disappointed in is how tacky the surface is. Other reviews I read said they had no problems with the mouse gliding over the surface of their mat however that is not the case. Maybe it just does not work on the clear pad. It is way to tacky and impossible to slide the mouse on. That was the main reason I purchased this so as to eliminate my mouse pad and give me more room. I remedied the situation by putting little felt tabs on the bottom of my mouse and it works fine. The clear pad is also a bit sharp on your arms while typing or leaning your hands on the desk if you put it all the way up to the edge of your desk. Still it is a good product and very sturdy. I am sure it will keep my desk protected for a long time.

Right out of the packaging, the smell of this mat is horrendous. I might not care so much if it were for a home office or something we did not use as much, but with virtual learning for the next few months, I purchased this mat for daily use for my boys’ desk in their bedroom. It made their entire room smell awful. My husband had no clue that I bought the mat for the desk, and immediately, as we were putting our kids to bed, asked what the terrible smell was in the boys’ room. It smelled so awful and chemical-y that I removed it from their room.I had this in their room for two days and it never laid flat on the desk, and it made my boys’ room smell gross. Would advise not to buy if buying for kids. Buy something of better quality.

I really wanted to love this desk mat. I have a smaller clear one from Ikea that I love, but it's too small for the protection I wanted. I got this one with high hopes, but a couple issues:1. I've had this thing for over 2 months, and the edges STILL do not sit flat on my desk. I kept it in the sun for hours and blow dried it, but no luck2. I put drawings from my daughter, prescription notes and other documents under the mat, and some inks have transferred to the vinyl and then back on to my desk when taking out the doc, or if movedI do like how the images underneath look, they're super-clear, but I can't get over the curled edges and transferring markings to my desk. I'll have to settle for my smaller Ikea mat for now.

Very nice product. Came with a few freebies. Got it for my office desk to put documents I need to see everyday underneath and I love it! Will buy more for other employees.

Terrible, unless you are planning on using this in a garage or other area where it doesn't matter.Manufacturer packaging is a nightmare to open. All the sticker warnings make it impossible to open the rolled up sheet easily. Once extricated from the packaging, almost impossible to unroll. The roll sticks to itself like glue. When it was finally opened and attempted to lay flat, even after re-rolling in the opposite direction, there are deep bumps in the material that will likely never become flat.Additionally, this is a MAJOR dust magnet. Returned.

Just installed this today (02/13/2020) and I am very disappointed. First as soon as I opened the role, I could already see my hand prints and dust particles present on the sheet. Second, the edges of the sheet are sharp and is rubbing against my hand creating an unpleasant work experience. Also, the edges are very hard to straighten. I wish I had shopped more before I bought this. The mouse pad provided has the same problem. It is hard to straighten that as well.

There was a little scratch on it. However, the purpose of it is to protect my desk which it does. It is very tick and large enough to cover a large part of my desk (the main work area).

I love the mat but for some reason it’s getting these patches all over and I don’t know how to get rid of them. Any tips?
