Everyday we see and hear all the expert advise on healthy eating and normally for everyone saying something is great, someone else is saying its bad
Well written book with numerous recipes to help one get started on eating in a more healthy manner. Everyday we see and hear all the expert advise on healthy eating and normally for everyone saying something is great, someone else is saying its bad. I have researched and read indent in attempting to breakthrough all the bs concerning healthy eating and feel the Dr. Ornish is one of the people I place a great deal of trust in. Ironically the others I also trust basically preach the same things! Maybe someone has it right?? I encourage anyone considering a healthy lifestyle to read Dr Ornish, The Mayo Clinic Diet, Dr Michael Greger, The China Study, Nathan Pritiken and a number of others whom you will see referred to by these authors.

Better than some diet books
Dr. Ornish's book is a nice supplement to my usual diet approach, but a bit too extreme to follow completely. Has some good tips. A few of the recipes are good, but most are simply too complex for me to make on a regular basis. The next edition of the book could use a chapter on the economic and social reasons for the sedentary lifestyle and obesity usual in the U.S. We pay huge amounts of tax money for highways, but not for sidewalks. Agricultural subsidies see to it that meat, sugar, and corn syrup are unnaturally cheap. Zoning laws in most places prohibit the building of walkable neighborhoods. The misguided do-gooders who run the campaign to protect kids from sexual predators have made walking to school a rarity. Dr. Ornish seems to think that our lack of exercise and poor eating habits are personal failings, to be overcome by a decent eating program. That is simply not so.

Good advice but truly terrible editing!
The advice is good so long as you don’t take the typos literally—and there are a lot of typos.I was all right with being told to “bum” calories through exercise but when it comes to telling me how many grams of “cat” I should have every day, well, I think PETA might be against that idea.Publisher: please fix this book!

Who Says You Can't Enjoy Healthy Eating?
A good diet is the most powerful weapon we have against disease andsickness. T. Colin Campbell, PhD, The China Study.Dr. Ornish shows how you can eat heatlhy foods that are tasty and pleasing to the eye as well as good for you. This book by Dr. Ornish, and his other books, were instrumental in my own conversion to a vegan diet and healthy lifestyle. All us baby boomers need to study his work and implement it into our lifestyle. Otherwise, we might not enjoy our senior and retirement years. We might live long through conventional medicine alone, but what's the point of living a long life if you are sick and miserable? We need to practice integrative healthcare. Dr. Ornish helped me overcome my resistance to healthy living. You owe it to yourself to give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always go back to being unhealthy.Richard Kownacki, Ph.D. Author of Do Not Go Gentle: Successful Aging for Baby Boomers and All Generations

Finally some common sense
Some of the reviews I read before I bought this would make you think Mr. Ornish is a Nazi. In a society where we are looking for a pill to cure everything instead of using a little self discipline I suppose you could think that. This book is a simple straight forward approach to eating the way nature designed us instead of the way fast food has trained us. If you're looking for a healthy life and maybe to drop some pounds too, and you are ready to be realistic about it, buy this book and his cookbook. The food is great and you won't miss the stuff you give up.

Inspired recipes
After having a heart attack at age 38, I discovered Dean Ornish's wholistic approach to healing heart disease. "Eat More" appeals to those of us who hate diets, but more importantly, offers some of the tastiest recipes I've come across. Ornish had chefs develop dishes based on beans, lentils and vegetables, which are made truly delicious and satisfying through the use of zesty juices, herbs and spices. These dishes are very easy to digest and give one a feeling of lightness and energy that's quite inspiring!
