Review: Wish I bought this before the classic baby gates - I absolutely love this product so far; it is so versatile! It is modular and easy to dissassemble/reassemble. I originally bought the Regalo pressure baby gates to fence my Basset hound pup in the kitchen while he was housetraining, and those worked well also, but the setup just wasn't working for him, as he had too much room to have accidents in. I decided to buy this and place it in an arc shape around the balcony pet door (Ideal Pet Products). The pictures I am posting are of this setup, where he has not only lots of room to move around in and luxury sleep quarters and access to food and water, but also free access to the balcony (which has the DoggieLawn/FreshPatch grass)... so I never have to worry about accidents when he is fenced in, or him having to hold it in too long. The housetraining is going great this week, and I can credit this gate for a lot of it! Before I bought this, he was in a temporary enclosure made by furniture penning him in, and he had no room to move and escaped, wreaking havoc in my apartment all day while I was away (and leaving me several gifts on the carpet!). This was an absolute lifesaver when it came. I took off 2 of the 2 foot long panels and use them outside as part of the enclosure around his grass, and the enclosure is still large enough for him to be comfortable. As others have mentioned, the gate panels themselves are sturdy metal, but the joints are plastic and can break if forced the wrong way. Does not bother me, given the price and the fact that I have a puppy, not a strong toddler or large dog. If you want a higher end comparable gate, there are others available on desertcart (try the North Gates superyard) for almost twice as much, which I've heard are more durable with metal joints, but for my purposes, this is a temporary setup. Your puppy or baby will not need this forever, hopefully, can you justify paying $100 more for it? It's up to you, if you have a strong animal/child you want to keep fenced in, but I don't need all that, and this is perfect for me. This has no pressure gate option, and I do not want to drill into the walls, so I just keep one end pinned down by furniture, and the other end connected by zip tie to the counterpart on the balcony, and I've had no escapes thus far. Puppy has not tried to knock down the gate, but even if he did, I don't have a German Shepherd, and I think it can handle his weight for now, even "partially free standing", as it is now. I use the Cloud Baby Monitor app (iPhone download) to monitor him while I am at work, and he is great, very quiet, seems content in his new home (the last is a screenshot picture from my phone on this monitor). This setup has basically saved me so many headaches from keeping a housetraining puppy while working full time.... highly recommend it to anyone. When he gets bigger, the modular nature of the panels will allow me to enlarge his area, maybe enclose off the entire dining room area, when I use it as a straight gate, instead of an arc. BTW, I was NOT offered a free or reduced price on this product, so you know my review is ACTUALLY unbiased.

**Q: can you put two of them together to make a bigger play area?**
A: You used to be able to do it. However they have changed the design of the connectors making it impossible to do so. I just received one, which had a broken connector right out of the box. I have purchased 6 of these over the years and they were wonderful because I could configure it to suit my needs. And if a connector was broken by a very determined dog, I usually had extra connectors on hand from having replaced the gates previously. This can no longer be done. I’m very unhappy with this change. Unfortunately no one else makes a gate large enough. Not sure how I’m going to remedy this situation. 😡

**Q: will it handle chilren shaking the fence**
A: My son jumps up and down trying to shake the fence when he has temper tantrums.  It holds up just fine.  That said, ours is cable-tied down to rubber mats (link below).  I highly recommend this solution, as in addition to shaking, many kids try to move the walls of these things and can move the entire pen around the room. **Q: If setting it up like the picture shown with the fire place, is there another way to mount it besides it being permanent?**
A: We use the "Baby" Gate for our two standard poodles. We have not mounted it to the walls; instead, we use it as a stand alone fence to temporarily block off certain areas. We have it set up now as a kind of playpen for our 5 month old puppy to keep her confined while housebreaking and to keep her from eating our other dog's food at meal times. It works perfectly. We've been using it now for almost two years. Of course, it isn't as secure as it would be if it were attached to the walls, but we wanted something more portable to be used in various places.

**Q: is it free standing on carpet? i want to use this as barrier gate like an arch, does this product serve its purpose?fall when pushed by kids?**
A: It was not mounted for a couple days and I had to secure it with bins on either side.  It currently is wall mounted and I would not trust it around children.  When I push on it, it has quite a bit of give (12 inches).   I can push it and pull it which is probably putting a lot of stress on the wall screws.  The only reason I am keeping it is because I have a 20lb mostly blind dog and not an active toddler.

I normally wait a little longer to write a review but I am very pleased with the product and I'm thinking about buying another one. My sister-in-law has a play yard and I knew I had to get one for my babe when it came time to have one. I am only 8 months pregnant but my dog decided to tear his ACL (I didn't even know a dog had an ACL until he tore his) and now I have to confine him for 6 weeks. The vet recommended creating him for that time only letting him out for bathroom breaks on a leach. But just like you wouldn't think a dog could tear an ACL, he's also claustrophobic and pees every time he's in a create, which is the reason I had to stop taking him to the groomer. My husband and I had to find a way to get him to stay confined without scaring the poor guy into dehydration. We were looking at the plastic yards but we were reading things about how a 20 pound toddler was able to tip it over and we didn't want that for our baby or for our 80 pound dog to just rest his head on it and have it fall over. That's not going to happen with this. Its very stable and very strong. When I was looking over the pictures I was thinking that it might be too small, too confined. The pictures made it seem like all that was going to fit was going to be a baby and one toy. I did opt for the 8 pannel but I am very satisfied with the size. It fits his large dog bed, a big bowl of water and a dish for his food. Its not too cramped that he's going to turn around and step in the water bowl and he's not going to tip it over. The gate is very easy to use and even I didn't have trouble figuring out the child proof system as sometimes I need instructions to open a medicine bottle. Something I wouldn't have figured out without my sister-in-law's was that you can use this to cut rooms in half. I have the "open floor plan" in my house and this is great because when a baby starts to crawl and you turn your head, they're not in the other room. My husband already stole this from my dog and used it to block off our garage from our cats when he was going in and out. It was very stable, very easy to use and very convenient. I'm sure this is going to be a very used piece of equipment before the baby is ever going to be old enough to use it.
