Mr Fothergill's 10649 Vegetable Seeds, Runner Bean Scarlet Empire (Stringless)

I wanted some of these runner beans mainly because they are the stringless variety. They are so much easier to prepare than the ones you have to string up each side before cutting into smaller sections.You can plant in pots in the greenhouse earlier than outside, straight in the ground, although they usually catch up whichever way you plant them. This packet should be used in 2023.The current price of £3.55 is fine, in my opinion for 45 seeds.

These Runner Beans all germinated successfully in the greenhouse and are doing really well outside now climbing up their canes. A good vegetable to begin with if you are new to gardening as easy to grow and take care of.I didn't give taste full marks because it's too early for the beans yet. I will revise the score once I've had chance to try them and see if they really are stringless.Just remember these are very attractive and tasty to slugs and snails. I lost my first batch completely to snails. So protect them well until they are estabished plants.

I have used this variety and supplier before. Scarlett runners are very high yielding and very rarely stringy unless you leave them to grow big. Great value for this brand.
