A comforting and playful exploration of a beloved dog's journey after a happy life on Earth. In Newbery Medalist Cynthia Rylant's classic bestseller, the author comforts readers young and old who have lost a dog, as she did for cats in the bestselling companion book, Cat Heaven . Recommended highly by pet lovers around the world, Dog Heaven not only comforts but also brings a tear to anyone who is devoted to a pet. From expansive fields where dogs can run and run to delicious biscuits no dog can resist, Rylant paints a warm and affectionate picture of the ideal place God would, of course, create for man's best friend. The first picture book illustrated by the author, Dog Heaven is enhanced by Rylant's bright, bold paintings that perfectly capture an afterlife sure to bring solace to anyone who is grieving. Review: The best book for grieving dog families - I have given this book to family members & friends that have lost their beloved dog to illness, old age or accidental death. Each has profusely thanked me for the comfort it brought them. I have even learned that a couple of family members have purchased it for their friends in times of pet grief. I had read it with my young grandchildren when their dog passed. They were happy their pet was happy and enjoying her afterlife. They have continued to read it at times despite it being a couple of years since their dog died. I read it on occasion when I remember the dogs I have loved over my 73 years.- Cynthia Ryland has written & illustrated a wonderful and comforting book for dog families of all ages. Truly recommended. Review: Beautiful book - This is the sweetest book and a great comfort for someone who has lost a beloved dog. Wonderful for children who are struggling with the loss of a dog too.

Great Book!
This is the sweetest book to give to anyone who has just lost their dog. I purchased my first volume at a bookstore many years ago. I purchased this one to send to my daughter, out of state, as her dog just passed away….and her family is sad.

the perfect mourning book
I admit it - I'm a shill for Big Dog. Sell out as I am, when my lab of 10 years died after a brutal struggle with bladder cancer, the veterinary oncology team bought me this book with well wishes from the staff. I could hardly read the book the first time around I wept so hard. But it's probably the perfect thing anybody whose had to say goodbye to their dog wants to receive. So I buy this book for friends when they lose their fur babies too.

Beatiful Book
I have this book for my children because we are avid dog lovers and an unfortunate part of owning a dog is when he or she passes. This helps ease the pain just a little and answers some questions children might have about what happens to a dog after it passes. I have also ordered this book as a gift for loved ones who have experienced the pain of losing a furry family member. It's a bittersweet book that both helps to ease the grief but also makes you cry when you are reading it. I highly recommend this book.

Sweet book
Cute book and sweet. A friend recommended it since I had just lost my dog. Thought it would bring more comfort than it did. Probably better for a child then for a 65 year old woman who is already pretty confident that all dogs go to Heaven.

a wonderful book for all ages
Such a comforting book to read when your heart-broken over the death of your beloved sidekick. Excellent for children to understand too, that while gone, their pet is in a good place.
