Great Notebook drive - using on HP Pavilion dv8000 Laptop Windows XP
excellent little 1GB hard drive - and I got it at a good price - $78. Replaced an older 320GB drive for triple the storage. I am still running windows xp (very stable) and I wasn't able to get my operating system migrated to a partition on this drive (was still on XP SP2 - but have now updated to SP3) - not sure what was going on when i tried to clone my system drive to this new drive (laptop has 2 drive bays) - so I just decided to use it for file/document storage. I formatted it using windows xp disc manager and created 3 - 320GB drive partitions from this 1GB drive - and it is holding all my photos and video fine so far with no issues. Seems to run quiet and plenty fast for file access. It is listed as an advanced format drive - but I formatted it as a 'basic' drive for my 32 bit windows xp - and it is running well with no issues so far after a month.

Just purchased for ps3/ps4
I just bought this item and I will update this review upon recieving it. Cant wait to use it for my ps3 and then my future ps4. Im planning to utilize it for ps plus since there are many games for it which my current ps3 slim's 160GB HDD cant hold. When I get the ps4 in a couple of months or so I will be replacing its stock HGST 500GB (yep same brand as this HDD) with this 1TB and installing the 500GB on my ps3. Its deff gonna be worth the hassle with this investment. Cant do better than that and cant wait for this to get here! Update 12/11/13: Just got this HDD delivered and I set it up and installed it in my ps3 in no time! runs excellent and couldn't be happier. It's perfect for the ps3 and ps4. The only thing is like all hard drives this size it needs to partition at least 100GB so the initial space I could actually use was around 830-850GB I forgot exactly. Still it's a lot more then my stock 160GB hdd. Highly recommended for ps3 and ps4! Packaging was also up to par.

Died in 3 months
thankfully this just held all of my games and not my important information so this is more of an annoyance than a tragedy. a few days ago windows gave me a popup that said basically "this drive looks like its gonna die so save your stuff and replace it asap". in the middle of backing it up it failed so i only got 30-50% done. i contacted hgst for an rma and they said "if you suspect your drive to be failing or it has failed just send it to us while its under warranty and we will do a 1 for 1 swap, we dont do any testing on the drives." so i will see how that goes and how long the new drive fares. edit: shipped dead drive on 5/1, arrived on 5/7, replacement shipped on 5/8, received replacement on 5/16. grand total of about 15 days including weekends, so shipping time was alright i guess. had to pay the $5 or whatever return shipping. we will see how long this drive lasts, hopefully i just got a bad one the first time around. upped rating to 3/5 for the rma being mostly hassle free.

Works fine on PS3
Installed it on my Playstation 3 according to Sony instructions on the internet. It was easy. Works fine. Before you turn on the PS3 to reformat the New HD, you will NEED to go to Sony and DOWNLOAD THE PS3 operating to USB Memory. Many websites have instructions on how to upgrade the HD. Some say that the having the PS3 Operating System on a USB 2.0 memory stick is optional. It is not optional, IT IS MANDATORY. After I put in the PS3 Operating System Install on the USB 2.0 Memory, inserted the memory stick and the Hard Drive with the data restore into the PS3 USB ports. Everything went fine. It into the PS3 Internal Hard Drive bay. Now I have a 1000 gb (1tb) Playstsion 3. Every once in a while the PS3 will Hang or Lock-Up. But eventually that will correct itself. Just hold down the power button and restart the system. Then let the PS3 fix the problems. Like I said, it will eventually work the problems out for itself.

Perfect for PS3 Superslim
Yeah... PS+ will take fill up your HD in short order. Buy a little more time with this. Outside of the time required to backup and restore your existing HD (You'll need an external drive bigger than your current HD to do so), the transplant is like a 10 minute job, IF your Superslim already has an HD. If it does not, you'll need to procure the appropriate bracket first. Nice unassuming HD. Does the job.

A warning for those with MacBooks
My late 2009 MacBook was running out of hard drive space due the large amount of....content....I had stored on it, and so I thought is was time for an upgrade. I thought a terabyte should do the trick. It arrived quickly, and I sat down at my kitchen table to remove the back of the laptop. I had no trouble replacing my old hard drive with this one. But when I put everything back together and flipped the computer right side up again, I heard the unmistakable thump of the hard drive hitting the back of the case. Uh oh. I impatiently removed the back again, cursing at the tiny screws. This new drive, I saw, was indeed loose; apparently, it is, perhaps, a millimeter smaller than the original Toshiba hard drive that came in the laptop, and thus the bracket holding it in place was useless. Inspired by the glass of whiskey I was sipping, I looked around the kitchen to see if there was anything I could use to brace the drive in place so that I wouldn't need to go through the hassle of returning it. And lo! There on the counter was an empty Michelada can I had been too lazy to take out for recycling. I cut out the side with a pair of scissors, folded it, and inserted it between the drive and the brace, securing it in place. When I put everything together again and booted up the laptop, everything worked perfectly (and has ever since). In short, if you have a MacBook, you might want to look elsewhere unless you're happy (as I am) to have a memento of your nighttime proclivities stashed lovingly inside your computer.
