The Lebensohl Convention Complete in Contract Bridge

The Lebensohl Convention is a very usueful convention in duplicate bridge. Even home style players can find this convention useful. It is best used after a natural overcall of a 1 NT opener or to compete against a weak two opener. Anderson explains the convention clearly and thoroughly. Here is an example of using Lebensohl. Your partner opens 1 NT. The next player overcalls 2S. What do you do? Anderson explains how to do this in Chapter 2 with many examples.

This is the go-to book on the Lebensohl convention. Whether you use the convention or not, you need to understand how it works, particlarly if you play duplicate. The book's first section focuses on the basic convention, with the remainder covering related items. Even if you read only the first 20 pages or so to learn the basic convention (and reread it again to get it down pat), this book is a good purchase and should be in every bridge player's library.

This was a replacement for my copy which I bought and read years ago, then loaned to someone and never saw again. The convention originally was the solution to a problem than arises when opponents interfere with an opening 1NT and partner must bid a suit at the 3-level. Is it forcing or invitational? Without Lebensohl, it's by partnership agreement, which will be wrong half the time. Lebensohl resolves the problem.

Thorough with plenty of examples. Offers some extensions and makes clear what is standard and what is an extension.

30 years on, this remains the standard on this important and complicated convention.

It is everything you ever wanted to know about Lebansohl and then some. It is written very concisely with plenty of sample hands to practice with. I belong to a bridge club where opponents interfere with the bidding all the time. This has proven to be an asset in dealing with these competitors. You and your partner will definitely learn Lebansohl with this book.
