Mandatory!
On average, you rate to be declarer 25% of the time and dummy 25% of the time. Fully half your time at the bridge table will be on DEFENSE, arguably the toughest part of the game. Author Eddie Kantar gives you the full treatment with his clear writing style and trademark humor. If your aim is to become a better bridge player (and a better partner) you need to spend serious time studying this book.

Clarity for learning and teaching
This is the most amazing bridge book for teaching I have ever used for my classes. Eddie Kantar is not only a great bridge player, he has written a fantastic book on defense. The information is clear and concise. Each concept is explained in detail and includes an example. Never before have I ever insisted my students purchase a bridge book. In this case, I required all students to buy the book and suggested to some of my partners who, by the way have over 8-10,000 masterpoints to read Kantar's book. Defense is the most difficult to play and to learn. Eddie Kantar made both easy. (I almost never review books I use) .............arlene port

Good technical bridge defense book
A great book for defense technical tactics.Whereas most books strive for various common strategic defensive situations, this book is different. It strives to give you and your partner the best agreements of when to signal attitude, count, and suit preference. I learned several things I didn't know before, and I've been playing this game for over 40 years. Great on opening lead conventions, signals, and a lot of rules of thumb about when to cover and when not to, which is great because you need to do these things quickly and in tempo. This book will improve the bridge defense of virtually every player out there.

Please separate partnership understanding from standard defense
I play with with several partners, not only one. I need to learn more about how to play defense, but it needs to be how to play defense with several partners, including playing with a new person for the first time. So, when I encountered "jack denies" and "the standard lead is the 10, however I suggest that you lead the 9." I wished Kantar had left the non-standard defense for a later chapter.I really need a book about standard defense, not stuff that needs a special partnership agreement.

A must read- probably the best theory book in its class
I own numerous books on particular topics of defense, signalling, partnership etc.If you are looking for a book to put you on track in a very readable and systematic way- that's the one! It's building up with logic order in a sensitive way, easy to learn and remember, like being in a classroom. All the theory is there, with many examples. Geared to take you to the advanced + level and compete efectively , however if you are looking for much more and beyond, then its sequel, Advance Bridge Defence, will do the restThen spice it with Eddie's humor......Easy to review and re-read when your memory betrays you, a MUST have book!

Essential for Duplicate Players Looking to Move Up
Not for beginners, but for those, say, moving beyond the 0-200 strat. The biggest difference between success and failure when you face good players is defense, most especially with the opening lead, and this book focuses on leads - and understanding your partner's lead - as the foundation of good defense. Consider that most people at this level pay $10-$20 or more per masterpoint (ouch! we never look at it that way, do we?), the $20 here should quickly result in more than one masterpoint gained. Read it with your partner(s).

Wonderful book - highly recommended
Following a recommendation I have this book about a year. It has post it notes sticking out all over the place and lots of highlighted pieces, especially in the early chapters. It's so well written: easy to follow with well laid out examples and a summary of the main points at the end of each chapter. It's got lots of genuinely amusing comments throughout. It's one of my favourite books. Initially, I found it quite challenging but even without taking in and remembering all the defence aspects it deepened my reading of the cards generally. With more experience I now get more from each reading. Bridge - what a game!!

ディフェンスの基本
悪くないけど、How to Defend a Bridge Handのほうがおすすめカードプレイ主体。
